import problem
Yesterday I received some QT files that I needed to import into FCP. They were uncompressed (compression “none”). I usually edit in 8 bit uncompressed (an Aja IO codec), so I opened the files in QT Pro and exported them as 8 bit uncompressed, then tried to import them into FCP. I got this:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
So the next thing I did was import the uncompressed files (compression “none”) into FCP (no problem) and exported them from FCP as 8 bit uncompressed, then imported these files back into FCP. That worked. So my problem was solved.
But does anyone know why this happens. It seems to me that it should have worked the first time, and I can’t find any explanation on the internet as to why the first set (processed in QT Pro) should have been un-importable in FCP.

Read that again. 1 file was recognized. That usually menas you’re ok. Were you trying to import 1 file that was in a folder? I bet that the QT file came from a PC, or were transported on a drive that can be read by a PC. A files gets added to the directory on drives or memory sticks that are formatted so a PC can read them. If you were to go back and try it again, the QT file you wanted very well might have worked. It likely was the 1 file that was recognized. The 1 Unkown is usually the FINDER.DAT file in the directory. I’m not entirely sure what the “0 access denied” means, but as long as it says “0 access denied”, it doesn’t sound ominous. Nothing was denied!
This happens to me when a client gives me PSDs on a memory stick that she uses on her PC and I don’t delete the FINDER.DAT file out the folder and before I use the Import Folder function in FCP.
Did the error stop you in your tracks, or did you go in and look at the 1 file that was “recognized”?

Hi Mark,
“None’ is something completely differen fron “Uncompress 10/8 bits”. If I’m not wrong, NONE is a 444 RGB format codec, when the 8/10b Uncomp are 422.
Out of that, if you can import the NONE files to FC, why don’t you just lie them in a 8/10B Unc sequence?
Or eddit in a NONE sequence (to have RT preview) and chage the settings of your sequence to 8/10B Unc right before rendering?
