    Hey Scott – thanks!

Yea, I’ve already tried that stuff. I deleted prefs, did a permissions repair, restarted etc..etc..etc. Nothing is working. I’m working on other files and there doesn’t seem to be an issue “yet”. I’ve never had a corrupt psd file – is there such a thing? A psd file that would cause Photoshop to act strange?

I’m waiting to hear back from Tiffen regarding this issue. I guess I should really start trying to do these filter effects in Apple Color. I’ve been learning Color and I’m really having fun with it. I’m sure it would render out filter effects faster then Dfx2 – just need to start figuring it all out. I’ve stayed away from the Color FX room because it just seems so “complicated” LOL.

    Cheers…..

December 19, 2009 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Squeeze Color Issues….

    1. The codec that I used for Final Cut Pro output was ProRes 422 (LT). Is there a codec that works better in Squeeze than others?

    2. I’m happy to not trust a preview but it seems to me that the preview is there for a reason. If it’s not to be trusted, why is it doing there? Squeeze has got nothing but raving reviews (as far as I can tell) and none of those reviews had anything critical to say about their preview system not being accurate. That will be a good point to bring up with the folks at Sorenson when I hear back from them. The videos on their site clearly show the guy making adjustments via filters while previewing the results in the Squeeze viewer.

    3. Did I try leaving the gamma & color alone? Yes, I did. The first time I compressed the file, I didn’t touch the gamma & color. I only adjusted it after I noticed such a huge difference in what I was seeing in the Squeeze preview window and the original .mov file.

    4. My displays are calibrated using the Sypder 3 system from Datacolor. Since computer monitors are subject to drifting over time, this helps keep my monitors color & gamma stable. I realize that this is not how professional editors calibrate their monitors for accurate color work, but this is fine for what I’m doing. I’m not sure how calibration could cause a .mov file to look one way inside of Qucktime and another way inside of Squeeze.

December 7, 2008 at 3:52 am in reply to: Final Cut Pro Keyboard –

Hi Andy, I did a search last night before I posted this and found a few items but it wasn’t much.

Today I picked up the newest Bella keyboard for FCP, the one that has the little lamp that you can plug into the keyboard that puts out a little light on the keys so you can see in subdued light. This was a great idea but the design is crap. Only one of my LED’s was working (comes with two) and the connection was loose and the light blinks on and off. Seems like a cheap piece of plastic crap. If it weren’t for the USB plugins on the keyboard, I would have taken it back to the store where I bought it. Because the keyboard has USB plugins on it, I pluged in my own USB powered LED lamp that I had purchased for my laptop and it worked perfectly.

Anywayz, thanks for taking the time to reply!

Walter, thanks for your reply. Can you give me an idea of where I need to be regarding a good system for FCP? I’ve never used a MAC before – always been a Windows user. I was looking on the Apple site this morning and configured what I thought would be a nice system for FCP. Can you comment on this setup?

Hey guys – thanks for all your help. Unfortunately…I’m still having major issues with PPro CS4. I tried to render out a small 10-minute clip last night and Adobe Media Encoder said it would take 14 hours to render it out. Sony Vegas does it in about an hour or so. My computer system and PPro CS4 are not working well together. So at least for now – I’ve decided to forget about PPro and stay with Vegas. Vegas isn’t the ideal program but at least it works 😛

Do you guys have any experience with Final Cut Pro? I have some buds here in Hollywood that are using FCP and they all tell me that I should pick up a MAC and FCP and stop dealing with PC (windows) headaches.

David – I don’t believe that Vista has a service pack 3….am I wrong about that? Would it help if I upgraded to Vista Ultimate?

Also, if I delete everything in my media cache folder, will that mess up projects that I’m in the process of working on now?

I wasn’t aware that there was a service pack 3 for Vista – I’ll get right on that.

Also, I’m working with M2T files from my Sony Z7U.

    Thanks David!!!
