Is this behavior exhibited in the Canvas window or only on your video monitor? Have you looked in the Sequence>Settings menu and double checked that anamorphic is NOT checked? That would sure letterbox your letterboxed footage.

Otherwise, I’d post exactly what settings you are capturing with and outputing with. That would make it easier for someone here to figure out what the problem is.

[Steve Karr] “We will be doing tons of footage so render time is a concern. Also I need to have others do the actual work, so easy is important too.”

Why not just create a PAL master and have it converted at a professional dub house for your NTSC distribution? It doesn’t get much faster or easier than that.

How about renting an analog >SDI converter, or renting time on someone’s LH equiped system to convert your HDV tapes? Seems like that shouldn’t be too hard to find in L.A.

Bought mine on Ebay, new in the box and delivered for $845. I agree that the design isn’t as slick as the Apple, but I have to say I love this display. The extra inputs are very handy as is the PIP function.

After my Macophile daughter yelled “WHAT’S THAT?!” when she first saw it…. I sometimes have a post it note covering the silver Dell logo on the bezel.

I’d like to add Talisker to that excellent list, and now have a Mike Cross tune running through my head:
“Lord preserve us and protect us…. we’ve been drinking whiskey for breakfaaaaast”

Have you double checked audio input settings in the Kona software and your system prefs?

  • [Wayne Carey] “Well, all I can say is that I recieved this system in May and have been using since that time. And yes, I do have a Sonnet Tempo-X eSATA 8 card”

You’re quite right Wayne, their press release announcing the eSATA 4+4 was posted on April 14.

For the record, my problem had nothing to do with Maxtor drives, I’m using Hitachi T7K250s which I’m very happy with. All seems well as long as the energy saver options are set as per my first post.

  • [Wayne Carey] “I have not had any problems yet. I’ve been using a Sonnet Tempo-X card for about 7 months… no problems. Its hooked up to a ProMax 2T Raid Array.”

That’s interesting Wayne…. perhaps the problem is only with the eSATA card. I’m guessing yours must be a SATA card as the eSATA wasn’t out seven months ago as far as I know.

[Paul] ” Did the clean install and archive”

    Paul,

You should be able to find the missing file in your archived system library folder. Just drag it to the new system’s library. Alternately, reinstalling Final Cut will put it where it needs to go.

    ****************
    [Bob Zelin] “David –
Does it really HURT YOU when you get a new product, and it comes with a 1 or 2 page “installation guide”, which is a single sheet of paper, if you READ THE F#$%ING manual?

From the Sonnet Tempo-X eSATA 8 installation guide (page 2 – IN BOLD HIGHLIGHTED PRINT to make sure that you read it !) –

Support Note for Power MAC G5 Users: The Tempo-X eSATA 8 card many not be installed in slot 4 (closest to the drive bays), and may only be installed in slot 2 or 3. Users should be aware that when certain standard 33MHz PCI adaptor cards are installed along with the Tempo-X card in slots 2 and 3, the Tempo-X card’s performance may be adversely affected”. “
    ******************

First, thank you Justin for your thoughtful and helpful reply.

    Bob,

Actually, I can read quite well. Can you? I politely inquired as to positioning my Tempo-X 4+4 card. I don’t own a Tempo-X eSATA 8 card. My owner’s manual reads (in bold highlighted text to make sure one reads it):

“Support Note for Power Mac G5 Users: …. The Tempo-X card may be installed in any of the slots and perform equally well under most circumstances. Users should be aware that when certain standard 33MHz PCI adaptor cards are installed along with the Tempo-X card in the 100MHz slots (slots 2 and 3), the Temp-X card’s performance may be adversely affected.”

I believe I’ve read (on Barefeats I think) that the “8” card has a physical problem fitting into slot 4. The design of the card causes a component to come into contact with the motherboard. That is why the eSATA 8 card cannot be used in slot 4, but that is not an issue with the 4+4 card.
