    Hi Noah
Yeh we are editing 8-bit uncompressed then outputing through an AJA IO box to DVCpro tape for broadcast and a 23″LCD for monitoring. I didn’t think that the AJA affected the render time though – does it?

    Hi Noah
I’m working PAL 8 bit uncompressed (upper field) and don’t need an Alpha channel. I expected that setting both Motion 3 and FCP6 to 8 bit uncompressed would keep the render time down, but obvously not. Does using a different codec reduce the time?

    Great advice, thanks.
I was sure that an external firewire drive would be the best solution, but I was asked to check out the Rev drives – have you seen the web site?!? https://www.revprolabs.com/rpl/index.html …well worth a laugh, it’s rarther corny!
So thanks for the confirmation. I’m off to buy some firewire drives.

    HI P
Thanks for that, I was thinking along the same lines, as our audio guys currently use G-Drives to move their media from truck to studio. However my manager had asked me to check the RevPro out.
    Anyone have any other thoughts?

    Thanks Russell – that’s what I feared!
I’m quite comfortable using STKPRO, it’s just another hoop to jump through, when currently the compression “just happens” during playout. Also once I take the audio into an AP enviroment I’ll be tempted to fiddle! So the process will take longer.

As many speakers out there as opinions!
    I use the Genelec

We use Genelec 1029A throughout our broadcast chain, from sound truck to edit suite, audio post, and TX. They are very robust powered speakers that handle frequencies well and you can run them quite load without distortion if you need to (although the editor in the next door suite usually complains!) I think these have just been superseded by the 8000 range but I’m sure they’ll be equally as good. Not sure on price, but worth checking out – they last forever!

Most of the plugin manufactures supply 1 or 2 free as a taster, and you can build up quite a nice collection of these simply by doing a google search for “Final Cut Pro Free Plugins”.
    Happy hunting!

    Hi Guys
Sounds like I need a tablet! Will the A6 wide be too small?
And I also like the sound of your “Bella USA FCP Pro Keyboard” Walter, is the jog/shuttle on it good? …Wonder if they ship to the UK?
Oh, and yes Peter, GOD TV has a production base in Sunderland!
    Cheers
