    Hi
Currently outputing to tape from FCP, so running audio through a great hardware Drawmer Dual Gated Compressor/Limiter, which helps keep the levels even for broadcast. However when we go tapeless and just save Quicktimes this will no longer be an option.
More complex edits go to Audio Post but simple stuff just needs a bit of a lift and evening out.
I’ve tried the Compressor filter that ships with FCP and find it very poor.
Without the hastle of taking the whole edit into Soundtrack, does anyone have any suggestions for a good audio Compressor/Limiter plugin that works with FCP?
Wouldn’t it be great if the Soundtrack compressor just worked in FCP!?!
    Many thanks

You probably don’t want to hear it, but I would use STKPRO. When you show is ready, export the show as a single audio file (or export all of the dialogue and music in different files) and take it into Soundtrack and do what you want to it. Then export a single file back to FCP.

For your simple projects, it can’t be that hard to export an audio file and open another program. It might even be easier because you don’t have to put a filter on every audio clip (though there are shortcuts for that).

    Thanks Russell – that’s what I feared!
I’m quite comfortable using STKPRO, it’s just another hoop to jump through, when currently the compression “just happens” during playout. Also once I take the audio into an AP enviroment I’ll be tempted to fiddle! So the process will take longer.
    Cheers
