Thanks for that Enge,
I’ve also been previously used to a lot of linear editing and the Sony controllers are great, it would be nice to find a FCP equivalent, but then there are a lot more tasks so I know it’s not that simple… or is someone out there currently designing it!!David

Hi Jerry
Sorry I was not very clear – I’ll start again!I cut a fast paced 10min piece a couple of years ago using FCP4.5HD, and have long since needed to ditch the media to free up drive space. I have been asked to do an update on the item using most of the old clips but inserting some new ones, so I need to recapture the old media.
I have openned the old project in FCP 5.0.4 and tried to batch capture the media (BetaSP) from the time line – I did not want to capture from the browser as it contains hundreds of clips (now all offline) that I ultimately did not use in the cut. FCP seems to capture a clip then throws up an error message “Reconnect Media Failed”. The Quicktime movie is in the Capture Scratch, but is corrupt, and does not appear in the browser window.
I found that if I copy the sequence into a new project, and then copy the clips to the browser and recapture from there, some of them will capture, but then require relinking to the clips in the timeline as they are still offline.
I have a lot of clips to capture and this is slow.
Do you know why it is not caputuring the clips correctly from an old project?
Hope this makes more sense!
Many thanks

Well Ed and Bob
Thanks for your suggestions.
I had aready tried the auto save vault – they were also corrupt.
“what happens when you put a clip into the Viewer window and select Modify/Timecode? Is an Aux TC selected somehow?”
Trying this there was nothing in the box! Clicking on any of the TC’s reveled a reel no. 001 and TC’s all starting at 00:00:00:00, and the same in item properties.Looks like it’s time to erase and reintall FCP!

Thanks Matt
Tried that before making the post!
Any other thoughts?

Thanks Walter
…but the media in/out have gone too! Across around 100 clips!

Agree.
I always use custom layouts.
Having 2×20″ Apple monitors I prefer to fill the right hand monitor with the timeline and have the menu bar above – everything else is then on the left, there’s loads of space.I’m currently cutting half hour youth shows with lots of cuts and fx, so I like to be able to blow sections of the timeline up large to work on the programme and not have to be constantly scrolling back and forth. These larger wide screen monitors have made a massive difference to my workflow. It’s a pleasure to come to work!!

Hi
Does anyone know a good site with info expaining Aspect Ratio? -
Hi Mike
The graphics were produced on a PC using 3DMax and the movie played as 16:9 on there.
You mention a “flag”. How is this encoded and could it somehow have been removed?
When I export the clip it appears in the export preview window as 19:9.
Could this be a Quicktime 7 issue? I cannot find any aspect ratio opions in Quicktime.
Cheers
David
