The FS7 is well-known for its “rolling shutter artifacts,” which you are now experiencing. Google FS7 rolling shutter and you’ll find a boatload of info on the topic. As I recall, there are some filters available from various companies designed to help mitigate some of the artifacts.

23.976 is the correct spec, however 23.98 is just another way that some manufacturers do shorthand to communicate it with fewer characters.
However, don’t fur a minute think that 23.976 and 23.98 are the same as 24fps, that’s a whole different ball of wax. Resist the temptation to use 24fps, it will screw up your life and it will get you fired.

There is no perfect answer… My advise is, absolutely do transcode them to ProRes 422 or LT (yiu won’t see a quality difference), but for now simply transcode at their native resolution, and just scale them in FCP so you know exactly what your looking at while scaling. Those will never be perfect, so just scale on the timeline to the size that works best for you.

Those are simply two different ways of communicating the same framerate. Move on… And, have a very happy and productive 2017 ahead.

Sure, but it’s a rather silly workflow – better to just bite the bullet now and learn FCP X.

December 27, 2016 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Stuttering Playback on CS4 Source MonitorYou need to tell us what you’re using for a media drive. If it’s just a single spinning disk it’s not giving you the throughput you need for ProRes HQ. You’ll either need a RAID, with 2-drives striped together, or you’ll need to step down to a lower bitrate ProRes version such as 522 or LT.

My hat is off to Apple – first, the entire demo has terrific production value – we all have incredible technology at our disposal, it’s about time a company is finally using it. And, the demo artist is awesome, he’s prepared, he knows what he’s taking about, and he’s quite well spoken. He leans a bit too heavily on the touch bar for me, but since Apple doesn’t have much to brag about these days with regard to its hardware, it’s clear he was probably instructed by the marketing dept. to make a big deal about that feature, and so it’s forgivable.

I agree with everything the two others have already said… Plus, you’ve only just begun, mastering color is truly a “black art” that only comes two ways: 1) with time; or, 2) by sitting next to an experienced colorist.
Ripple Training does offer some terrific guidance in some of there tutorials, and they are a real bargain, but there is no substitute for actual hands on experience gained over time, unless you can learn from sitting at the side of another who already has years of experience.
