Greetings. Could anyone please counsel me on a possible solution (or workaround if necessary) to the stuttering playback of my Pro Res 422 HQ footage on the SOURCE monitor?
SD footage played well but not this HD which played well on the timeline after rendering but never on the Source monitor.

    These are my specs:
    2048 x 1080 in ProRes 422HQ on CS4 on OSX Lion:
    Model Identifier: iMac11,3
    Processor Name: Intel Core i5
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 8 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
    Boot ROM Version: IM112.0057.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.59f2
    Serial Number (system): W80257T5DB5
    Hardware UUID: C7156188-35C1-5CC6-AF55-8E3C75CB2EF1

    Thank you very much!

You need to tell us what you’re using for a media drive. If it’s just a single spinning disk it’s not giving you the throughput you need for ProRes HQ. You’ll either need a RAID, with 2-drives striped together, or you’ll need to step down to a lower bitrate ProRes version such as 522 or LT.

to add to this, you can do offline edits then replace master media folder when ready to export full HQ, like a manual proxy.

Thank you very much, David. Wish i had known that before i converted R3D to HQ. I would have gone with LT.
Now, i’ve already started editing everything directly on the timeline: a slow workflow, but it seems like my only choice at this point.
