Do you really think you’ll edit the job in hours? If not, why bill in hourly increments?
Editors are not “service bureaus,” like copy shops, we are craftsmen and craftswomen who should be paid by the day, or at the very least, half day. The kind of work you’re doing should command at least $500 to $600 a day at a minimum, and maybe more, depending upon your experience and expertise. If you’re worried about losing the job because you’re overcharging, that typically means you’re working for clients who are beneath your level. Don’t stoop to their level out of fear, because that sets the bar too low for you and for the rest of us.

No! The processor is old and underpowered, there’s not enough RAM, the GPU is old and underpowered. Other than those things it’s perfect. 🙂

Use ProRes 422. In addition, your workflow logic is a bit off… You should create a hi-res master first, rendering the timeline first, then exporting a file that matches your current settings – both of those will happen super fast. Then, use that file in Compressor to create and h.264 file for delivery using one of the h.264 presets.

If there is anyone at the management company who is so upset that they wish to spend a bit to fix the issues, take the material to a professional colorist who has the paid version of Resolve and REALLY knows how to use it. The full version of Resolve has noise reduction built-in, and a seasoned pro can probably pull some tricks out of their arsenal, such as a bi-pack, with which you may not have in your arsenal.

First, there is a preference you can change that will not scale clips to match the timeline settings. You can find it…
Second, for the clips you may have already added to your timeline: double click the clip to load it into the viewer > click on the Motion tab > click the red X to clear the parameters and return the to their defaults, which will make your video display natively.

Are you able to render the sequence, “completely?” If not, then you have issues with some of the clips in your sequence, which you need to track down by systematically trying to render the individual clips one at at time, or a few at a time, until you find the ones that have issues.
If you can render the entire timeline, then export a master file that matches the settings of your sequence… Then, bring that into AE and use it to create any other file you need.
