Not sure where you got the idea that de-interlacing throws away half the picture information??? De-interlacing combines two fields into one progressive frame. If anything, progressive display effectively doubles the resolution, as both fields are displayed simultaneously for a full 30th of a second. Interlaced video displays half resolution at 60th second intervals, never actually displaying both fields simultaneously.

Keep in mind that both TVs require certain compromises. Of course everything will be a compromise until all TV signals are HD.
The 32″ is a 4×3 TV, so SD will be full-screen, while HD will be letterboxed (top and bottom) occupying a relatively small part of the screen. So, that one favors SD viewing at the HD viewing.
On the other hand, the 30″ is a 16×9 TV, so while HD will display full-screen, SD will be letterboxed (on the sides), occupying a relatively small part of that screen, unless you stretch the picture, which will of course distort it. That one favors 16×9 HD viewing at the expense of SD.

DV is exactly the same whether captured via fireire or SDI. There is no compelling reason to capture via SDI that I can think of, and since firewire also handles deck control through the firewire cable, its simply easier.
In addition, there is also no difference (at least in theory) bewteen FCP DV and DV on a Microsoft box, because DV is a 1 to 1 copy of digital information that is not (again in theory) affected or degraded during tranfer from one medium to another (tape to hard drive).

As a Combustion user myself (and former Edit user too), I can’t imagine not having Cumbustion in my kit, and I think you will also feel that way. There is absolutely no advantage whatsoever for a Combustion user to switch over to After Effects — neither Combustion nor AE integrates with FCP without Automatic Duck, so I think its a moot point. If you are like me, you will find that Motion’s integration with FCP will fulfill many of your needs, and so using Combustion without integration may do the job, and you may not even need to spend the dough on Automatic Duck.
Good luck, you like FCP a lot after you wrap your brain around it…

Thax left out just one little tip – keep the camera running constantly during each repeat performance, even if you make a major camera move. That will make it much easier to sync up your various takes, and will make post much easier and mush quicker.

Soundtrack Pro has very nice noise filtering capabilties. I would suggest that you do the brief tutorial on the FINAL CUT STUDIO DVD TUTORIAL disc, as it shows you precisely how to do this.
BTW, its not a bad idea to do all the tutorials on that disc in fact, as you will get a very good overview of the entire suite of apps. I can assure you that your reliance on your fellow Cow members to answer routine questions will be substancially lessened if you do those tutorials.

If you are planning to give your card away I’ll be more than happy to take it… The BM cards offer excellent performance at a very reasonable price, and their customer service is as responsive as you’ll find anywhere. Most people come to this site when things aren’t working as expected — its not were they come to post all their good news. And, much of what you read here is from people who have recently upgraded their hardware and software, so naturally you can expect them to encounter issues and to request support, because that’s what this forum is for.
I am a very proud owner of a new BM Extreme card, and I’m very happy with my purchase.
