I was watching the Red Hot Chili Peppers Music Video of the the song called Zephyr and there is this effect they use that makes the video look like a kaleidescope where it moves back and forth and is enveloped in itself, its kind of weird to decribe, but I have seen it used in other places aswel. Is this effect available in FCP or Is there a way to do it?

    -thanks

Never heard of them or the video.
    Kaleidescopes?
Yes, but what do you want to spend in terms of research. money, or creativity?

Lots of third party filters and plugins or such elegant effects can just take a little work directly inside FCP. You need to know nesting and mirroring, difference mattes, rotation, distortion, and the ever-popular “I can steal that effect in ten keyframes” deconstruction exercise.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Josh,

See the following link https://toolfarm.com/pluginfinder/index.php?Andrew%27s%20Video%20Effects — one of the fifteen filters in Andrew’s Fileters is a Kaleidescope efect.

Export the clip to Motion….. You have a Kaleidoscope filter available in there… and the best thing is, it’s free. A lot of editors don’t realize the power and options Motion gives you. Have Fun…John

Hall of Mirrors from the Image Lounge plug-ins collection is great for this.
