You are absolutely correct!!! I am absolutely wrong!!! The technique I described does work with filters, but not transitions. I stand corrected and humbly await sentencing.

You could simply lasso all or part of the timeline, and then drag a five frame dissolve on top. Sure seems a lot easier to me…

All very good questions…
It is very professional to tell the client that you can’t give them a final estimate until you’ve actually “reviewed” the material. I wouldn’t be quite as specific, such as mentioning the words “additional editing,” that could freak some people out. Just tell them that its always your practice to make certain that all technical considerations have been taken into account, so they can be assured that their final product will be as good as it can be. And yes, give them an estimate with a range that covers what you believe to be customary, and tell them you’ll give them a firm price when you’re certain of what’s actually required to complete the job.

Now we’re talking… This is exactly why I think tape to tape CC with a real expert at the controls of a DaVinci is one of the best bargains in town. It can take “the low budget look” out of a low budget project faster than anything I know.

Sure, you can mark an in & out and only that portion of your timeline will be exported via Compressor. There is no compelling reason to put each segment on its own timeline as a separate sequence.
