All I can say is good luck to you. Apple may have released a fixed version by now, its been a week since they pulled 7.0.4 originally. However, do keep in mind, most of the problems are not with standard operations, the issues only appear when it comes time to output to tape or when exporting from the timeline. Quicktime files created in the broken 7.0.4 were two frames out of sync with exports of self contained movies from previous versions of Quicktime, and an export under 7.0.4 would take three times as long as normal as well. In addition, Edit to tape would not play continously, however, after reverting to 7.0.1 and then upgrading to 7.0.3 (Apple’s posted fix), Edit To Tape of the same material would play continuously. So, if you suddenly encounter these issues don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Look at it this way, you’re giving the old owner half of the ticket price to the newest Quad G5, which he will not do until some sucker comes along to reload him with the fresh ammo he needs. Without you, he’d be stuck in the land of the boring and unexciting. So, you’re doing him a huge favor. This should be your pitch.

Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of installing QT 7.0.4 on any computer. Apple has pulled it, and it cost me three days dealing with various issues it created.

You will never get your various monitors to accurately display the same video quality because they display very differently. Since you are not outputing for broadcast your best bet is to chose one of your monitors, preferably the 1081 CRT TV, and use your eyeballs to achieve the best qulaity you can. Then, take your DVD to a friend’s house and play it back on a SD TV and then go somewhere to play it back on an HD TV. If they look good, then you’re good to go.

Use Media Manager for each project and, using the move function, have all of the media for each project move to a specific directory of your choosing. Once you’ve done that on all projects your job of finding things will be much easier.

Whatever encoding software you use, you need to set the flag (or check the box) for anamorphic. This will make your DVD play 4×3 letterboxed on a 4×3 TV and 16×9 on a 16×9 TV.

Sorry, but a .swf file is not a Shockwave file, its a Flash animation file. Not 100% certain, but I think Sorenson Squeeze may provide a clean Flash to QT conversion. Check out http://www.sorenson.com for a free trial.
