Isn’t the sync issue something that could be solved in any other NLE using Plural Eyes?

2-4. It’s been this way for me since 10.04. Understandable with full hd on FW but doesn’t make sense with proxy. It makes for a very frustrating experience. I’m glad to hear this isn’t a feature problem. Not sure how I could solve it though seeing as it happens regardless of the hd that I’m using.

I have a 2011 i7 imac 3.4 with 16gigs of ram. I am working off firewire 800 though. Doesn’t seem right with proxy clips that I can’t play through a multiclip in the event browser.

Click “File-Link to AMA volume”
Select the folder and it will AMA link to all the video files. You may have to first download the canon AMA plugin from the avid site for free.After you see all your video files in the bin, you’ll want to transcode the files to dnx 115/145. You can subclip and make selects first before transcoding and you can edit with the ama files but performance will be poor. It’s best to transcode. Also transcoding will create new files in an avid organized media folder on the drive of your choosing.
Another option is to click “File-link to AMA files” and choose the mov files one by one.

Also, depending on what you’re doing, its a good idea to google/youtube various workflows to see how they differ from what you are doing in PP and FCPX. For certain projects, you may find that one NLE takes too many hoops to jump through to get from A to Z. The problem with just using a trial for 30 days is that you’ll get an idea on how the time line works, but with Media Composer there is somewhat of a steeper learning curve, because it is so much more feature rich in certain areas. But once you get over the curve, you appreciate all that it does.
You may not make a proper judgment based on what you think the software is capable of with your limited 30 day knowledge. That being said, the first time I ever fired up media composer, was to cut a feature, having never messed with it before and noticed it was far more elegant than my experience having just finished a feature in FCP 7.

That is correct. Any corrections that you want applied to all instances of the camera should be done in the angle editor, and it will update throughout the project(s).

Anyone know if mixdowns/transcodes from within the nle happen in the bg or is it limited to dynamic folder media transcoding?
It seems that it wouldn’t help as much if you’re going the AMA, selects, transcode route.

Is this something everyone experiences? I have an i7 3.4 with 16gigs, or is this just one of the setbacks of not having a traditional composer window? As far as the range selection problem goes, a simple mark to markers command as existed in 7 and Avid would solve the whole thing, oh yeah and colored markers so I can differentiate from my editing marks.

I’m on 10.06 on OS 10.7 and I get green glitches with or without added effects. Its been that way since 10.03 with me (which is when I started using X). The only solution is to “Send to Compressor”. This seems to fix to problem at least on export. Copying the project without including renders will help temporarily within the NLE, but they will show up again.

Here’s the reason I can’t make selects first, I’m basically doing an edit that involves a long version and a shortened version. Both are given to the client. So the long version is made and there is only a minimal amount cut, thus the 80-90% is select. Therefore I’m searching for spots to cut out rather than what to include. These are live events, not scripted. In a normal timeline when I come to a spot that isn’t necessary, I would mark an inpoint than keep skimming about the sequence until I ran into a part where I could make a seamless transition and mark an out, then delete between in and out, but the range selection makes this pretty cumbersome. Firstly, I can’t start the process based on the outpoint and second its so easy to click somewhere and the mark disappears.
My timeline is 100% multi-clip based off of one long multi-clip in the event browser, and one problem Im running into is when I match frame, I can only set an in point. I cant transport through the clip to an outpoint from the event browser to make a select. I can’t even play through a multi-clip from the event browser. This is a big letdown for me.
