Nope definitely an FCP X issue imo. The same thing happens to me. And it only happens when using X. The whole OS hangs except the mouse movement forcing me to do a hard reset. My imac was recently diagnosed with a clean bill of health from the Apple Store.

Excellent! I didnt know the timeline index could be used to select transitions. I have a process for which I slap on “sound only” transitions and then duplicate the project to make something entirely different and they get in the way of trimming down. By clicking “roles” and “sound only” I was able to delete them all in one pass just as I was hoping.

Thanks so much for the help.

I’m going to have to read up on how that works. I know resolve for grading, but haven’t used it for that before.

Since the framerate differs, it is not possible to do a proxy/hi-res workflow correct?

  • This happens to me 99% of the time. I’ve just gotten used to forcing quit and restarting every time I switched from proxy to optimized. At first I thought maybe if I go to the project index and close all the folders it would help to minimize all the clip changes, but it doesn’t.

Couple hours or so. I use plural eyes though. Syncs in seconds what final cut could never sync or would stall it forever.

It certainly is more crash prone . If you don’t have a continuous audio track running beneath its def not going to sync, and I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t even if the internal clocks were matching. I sync everything with plural eyes which gets messy in cases like this because you end up with multiple events, but what I found is that whenever you have a long multi clip synced all the way through, 10.08 will crash every time you hit a gap of black. Huge PITA! You have to watch out for them and delete them before the playhead hits the black.

I’ve done many many weddings in FCP 7, Avid and FCPX. I love avid more than any other system but not for weddings. Mainly because most weddings are now shot with dslr’s/gopro stop and shoot multi cam, an absolute nightmare in Avid. If your’s is shot all the way through without stopping or, than it shouldn’t be any more difficult than another system. You’ll definitely want to consolidate first. I haven’t used the type of footage you speak of in Avid, but ama just doesn’t work well for editing in avid at all especially multi-cam.

  • Keframe the first part then set the reference frame to when it comes on screen and can be tracked, when it flies off screen you can manually set the trackers for the last part by stretching them to one straight path and deleting all the unnecessary data points.
