The timeline index is pretty handy for this type of thing, but its not quite what your asking for.

Actually, you reminded me of a great trick that could help OP. Open the timeline index and make sure it set to show everything. Then in the search bar, type, “undefined” because that’s how FCPX categorizes the “role” of transitions. This should isolate all the transitions in your timeline where you can delete as many as you need to at a time.

Excellent! I didnt know the timeline index could be used to select transitions. I have a process for which I slap on “sound only” transitions and then duplicate the project to make something entirely different and they get in the way of trimming down. By clicking “roles” and “sound only” I was able to delete them all in one pass just as I was hoping.

Seriously, if you had “all” selected what made you think of typing undefined? Isn’t ALL an undefined search?
I guess not. But what is/was your logic?

LOL I wasn’t searching undefined, but seeing “undefined” listed, wondering what the hell that was, selecting it, and seeing a transition become selected. And then promptly forgetting it ’til now. 🙂

In the timeline index, if you show “All” clips, and you have the Roles column enabled, transitions all take that Role. The transition Name is listed, but whatever the name, all of them have the “undefined” Role and can be searched.
