    Tom,
    Sorry – more info:
when i opened up his sequence, it was:
    1920 x 1080
    Aspect ratio: HDTV 1080i (16 x 9)
    and
    Pixel aspect ratio: Square

Now the problem becomes more clear – he edited a small clip
as though it was HD. So I’m not sure why it would have looked OK
    to him with those settings.

I tried to embed screen captures I made using Grab,
but those are .TIFF files and not supported. Will have
    to find something else.

    Thanks again,
    Dave

    Hi Tom,
    Original project:
    Media: frame size 720 x 480
pixel aspect NTSC – CCIR 601
    Sequence: same as media

Project I received from my editor:
    Sequence: 720 x 480 and Square

The Media I sent to my editor that
he edited with was: frame size 320 x 180
    pixel aspect Square

And then I reconnected to my original media when
    I opened up his sequence.

    David,
Thanks – using the same setting as the capture setting makes sense and
    seems to be working.
Also, i never bothered to educate myself about the definition of “uncompressed” – of course what you said makes sense – the pro res files always come out huge.

    David,
Not to change the subject or anything, but have you
explained elsewhere on the forum how you created that
    unbelievable Chicago Spire sequence?

    David,
    IT WORKED!

I turned iLink off in the Sony menu.

The camera’s LCD still says “HDVin” and “iLINK” for some reason
but that seems to have done the trick.

    Huge help.

    Thanks so much.

    Nicholas,
    Thanks for the help.

    Still not working.

    Here’s exactly what I’ve got:

    EASY SETUP
    Format HDV
    Use 1080i60
    Rate all rates

    A/V SETTINGS
    Sequence Preset HDV 1080i60
    Capture Preset HDV
Device Control Preset Sony HDV Firewire

I tried about 10 different options for Device Control Preset.

Camera output choice for VCR HDV/DV is set to HDV

I know the Firewire is working because FCP and camera are responding to each other.

I realize this is a different solution from David’s, but if it worked for you…

Does it look like anything is set wrong?

    Thanks,
    David

    David,
I found your posts about the V1U before I posted and tried
the Poisson method. But he did not say anything about Easy Setup –
so I’m not sure where to set “Format”, “Use” and “Rate” in the Easy Setup.

Right now the tape rolls and the capture window is open but it is black
    and nothing gets captured.

    Thanks,
