  • Could it be possible some settings were changed during the upgrade process?

I also like Red Giant Universe, really great stuff and you get to vote on what they should add next. Update cycle is on average, monthly.

In some sense, Motion could be considered a plug-in as it allows for one to build, from scratch, custom effects, transitions, generators and titles.

I also like Total Adjustment from RGB House (think that is the name), which is an adjustment layer. Available for free from the App Store.

That is my list and love to hear what anyone else is using.

[Bret Williams] “I think the little 5-10 sec motion beach ball is FX Factory checking for updates. Do you have FX Factory?”

I did have FX Factory at one time but since I hardly use it I have deleted it. Recently did a clean install from the ground up.

One thing that I just now thought about is Red Giant Universe. I did add it back in. Occasionally there is a terminal error message, most of the time the internet connection is disabled. I sometimes get a message that plug-in from Universe caused FCP X to close unexpectedly, but it was a normal quit from what I can tell as I press command q to quit. The error message follows, but not all the time. Perhaps there is a chance Universe could be what is causing this. It is set to check for updates on a weekly basis, since most of the time the internet connection is disabled, this could be a cause.

Could it be possible that Universe could be checking for an update as well?

Part of Xs issues with sucking up RAM and beach balling might actually be that as Alex4D has pointed out, it’s running a full copy of Motion within FCPX. So that’s a but if built in bloat already. I’m”

For the most part, FCP X is pretty responsive on my system despite the occasional somewhat long render time. I do get the evil beach ball when starting up Motion 5. First thought that Red Giant Universe had something to do with but I am on mid 2012 Mac Pro, have not added anymore memory so that might be the culprit. Other than that, Motion seems to be responsive as well.

I would try a two color ramp and key frame the center point of the ramp. Make sure the right side is white and the left side is black. Use the ramp as a image mask on the logo, make sure to choose the luma option, not alpha. Selecting luminance will use the brightness value of the ramp. Please let me know if this works.

This forum was NEVER about usable information. I was always shocked at the amount of usable information here. LOL Entirely by accident, and never our intent. This is a DEBATE forum.

For getting actual work done, we have the FCPX Techniques forum, and it is indeed one of our most popular. We also have a tremendous amount of FCPX-related discussion in other forums that touch on FCPX for other parts of workflow, including Resolve, After Effects, camera forums and others.”

Useful information? What is that? LOL I have always felt this forum was more about entertainment value then anything else. 😉

I probably visit this forum the most, followed by the “FCP X Techniques”, and, yes, the “Adobe CC Debate”. That one seems to have slowed down a bit as well. Another forum of interest is Blackmagic Design and Resolve. Just waiting for a Fusion forum to make its way back into the mix.

Now, for the serious side of me, I do find these forums informative.
Sure, there are a few jokes and laughs involved. I probably visit the COW at least 3 times a day looking for entertainment but really stuff that is informative. Stuff that will allow me to have a better workflow strategy along with useful little tidbits never considered before.

Tim, you really need to make more posts. 🙂 I find great value in them.

Thank you. Look forward to see what the team has planned for Fusion, hope it will make its way to the Mac platform. Very excited by the news.

[Scott Witthaus] “Also, is the release version of 11.1 an upgrade or do we need to remove the beta version and reinstall the release version. Thanks in advance.

    Scott Witthaus”

    Scott,

The 11.1 release is not an upgrade, the feature set in there is the same as it was in beta. In other words, 11.1 is out of the beta stage.

I have yet to go in and update from beta to the non-beta (full) version. It is recommended to remove the beta before installing the new version, though this might not be necessary.

[Bill Davis] “As much as I love the debate here,, this forum has a bit of a reputation for trashing X, so the eyeballs of the active FCP X user community have largely moved elsewhere.”

I agree and disagree at the same time. I do feel that FCP X needs some improvement, it is not perfect, then again no NLE is. I nearly threw up when it first came on the scene but decided to give it a try. Started in around version 10.0.6, since then it has become a very good competitor.

A few basic features in FCP 7 and versions prior are still missing but I have found a few workarounds. I also don’t mind adding some other applications to the mix. I have 7 to X, Media Info and a few other tools in the box.

I use Motion to create custom built effects, generators and so on. One example was making a fade in / out effect. This way I can have a clip fade in, fade out or both by applying the effect built in Motion. Saves time and key frames. Just a couple of adjustments and presto!

I find that being able to create custom built stuff from scratch can save time and money. Besides it is fun, the most important aspect. The money saved can be used for a new set of lens, a lighting kit or more storage. That is my take on it.
