Thanks so much, that just saved me 2 hours! I boosted the still image cache to 20%.
Much appreciated 🙂

Damn! I knew I should have used AE or something else. I just thought this would be quicker. Glad to hear I’m not the only one to realize: ANIMATING TEXT IN FCP RESULTS IN STUTTERING, CHOPPY, TITLES!!! But back to the drawing board i guess…

Well i have clips that are 45 mins long. After effects will give me a huge file. Plus putting premiere sequences in after effects sometimes creates problems for me. I’ve had multiple 5sec chunks of sequences just disappear after rendering out. Thanks for your help

Thanks for the input on image resolution. And the program monitor tip. I’ve had to do this when my video card was acting up. Querky indeed.
Actually, John, I’d hate to tarnish your beloved FCP, but I run into the same EXACT problem with MOST .psd files in Final Cut. The program crashes, the sequence is corrupt. So I dig through the auto-save vault to find a recent version of my sequence, copy it all, paste it into a new sequence, and (as directed by the FCP staff) convert all .psd files to .png. Final Cut is great for story-tell editing. I use it as an in house editor part-time. But when working with photoshop files, handed down from a graphic designer, it’s a pain to make every layer a png. That is, if the animations don’t require After Effects.
Plus I have a really tough time with finding FCP support.

Ya its 5400. I am using external ESATA hard drives for all the video storage which seems to work great concerning copy speed and reading. I thought 4gig of RAM and a 2.4Ghz Core 2duo would be enough to consider, but I didn’t take the HDD speed into account when purchasing this laptop.
Thanks!

Wow I feel stupid! Thanks so much guys. I’ve been with Premier since version 5.7, but I just forgot about this little detail. It was so random but I forgot my camera was plugged in and still turned on at times; so everything was routed through it. I thought for sure I messed up my hardware acceleration settings when I was fooling around!
Grazie!

Sorry, but I’m still having issues here. I tried all the different pulldown scenarios. Recapturing is the only option left, but I don’t understand what that will do.
The pulldown that AE guesses for me doesn’t even look like it plays well. Its all choppy.

Hey Dave,
Its still a problem within FCP, but I found a way around it.
Basically, the layers that rendered incorrectly had NO effects, keyframes or alterations whatsoever applied by AFTER EFFECTS. But they DO contain multiple layer styles brought in from photoshop ( newly supported in AE CS3). I just went back into photoshop and had to flatten those styles. Interestingly enough, it seems the “pattern overlay” style from Photoshop specifically does not render well in After Effects. Especially when the pattern is scaled extremely small.
Thanks for your help…you always respond so quickly!

Okay, I’ll try it. So, standard procedure with the DVX 24p footage is to let AE guess the 3:2 pulldown and if that doesn’t help just try them all? Should 24p footage be placed in a 23.976 comp or 29.97?
