Your right the XC 999 has a 1/2″ Hyper HAD CCD (resolution of 470 TV lines).

The biggest difference is that the XC 555 uses a 1/2 chip insted of a 1/3 chip in the XC 999.

Use what ever lights you want as long as they are the same temp.
Then just color balance your camera to the lights.

FYI, ProTools LE will not import/export OMF files without also buying DigiTranslator for $495.00.
And on top of that, in order to use DigiTranslator, you must then also buy an iLoc USB dongle.

Of course if you want full video support with time-code and such, you will then need to purchase DV Toolkit for $995.00.
I just love how Digidesign/Avid takes care of their customers!

I’m not sure.
We still do it the old fashioned way.
We put the tape into a DV vtr and dub from there so we can do a time-code window burn.
The footage dosen’t save us or the client much time or money if we cant go direct to a point on tape.
Without time-code they are just guessing.

If you are going to purchase and not rent,
I would look for the quietest unit that would supply your power requirements.
I would also look for a unit that had crystal lock voltage output.
In worst case, there is always ADR.
