As the previous post mentions, it depends on the codecs of the AVIs (many possibilities). If the codec is one that’s available for Macs, install it and play the AVIs.
It’s not always easy to know the codecs of AVIs unless you want to run them all through software like ‘GSpot Codec Info’ or the unlikely scenario that you’re generating all the AVIs yourself (if so, just make them QuickTime instead). So, if they’re available for Macs, maybe install one of the ‘every-codec-known-to-man’ type packs from someplace like k-litemegacodecpack.com instead of trying to do them one at a time as you realize a particular AVI won’t play on your Macs.
I do a lot of cross-platform work so I decided it was just easier to get in the habit of converting AVIs (and MPEG1s) to QuikTime via software like Canopus ProCoder (my opinion…the best), Sorenson Squeeze (pretty darn good too) or Cleaner (my opinion…use to be the best, but now the worst).

I haven’t tried CS2 yet, but can you no longer right click (Mac OPTION click) and “copy layer styles” then paste them to another layer? Even if that does still work, it’s a couple extra clicks so I can’t think of a logical reason Adobe would remove the abilty to drag & drop them.

If you’re on a PC, try Camtasia Studio 2 from TechSmith…very nice software package.

Personally, I’d first try my best to get the company to spring for a relatively high-end PC, then maybe try a demo of AE on the Dell, then if it can’t handle it without problems, go with the Mac version on the G5.
My guess is the benefits of “compatibility with rest of company” will be far outweighed by problems from “not much power/ram” so you may want to skip that middle step altogether, depending on how bad the Dell really is (CPU/RAM/hard drive capacity/pre-loaded software/maintenance history).
The issues raised by a cross-platform workflow are not insurmountable…just unecessary annoying hurdles, in my opinion.

You need at least 2 keyframes set for the Wiggler to work (they can be the same). If that were not the case, you wouldn’t have any control over where your layer ends up when it’s done wiggling. Hope I didn’t misunderstand you question.

I don’t have any specific info, but have heard some talk and also saw a post here very recently on that subject. With that said, note that there has often been several years between major releases of AE, although AE has never had ‘competition’ before.
Just my 2 cents as an AE user since version 3, but based on my experiences, I’ve made it my standard practice to never install a dot-zero release of AE on my primary system. So, I plan to wait for 7.5, unless I have a spare computer available at the time to test 7.0 on.
Anyone else?
