Can you confirm that your video is being affected by framematching a raw clip to a cc’d one? Otherwise its an audio issue, and if its not a settings issue, then it might be a format issue (fyi always edit in wav).

  • Wow, that does sound annoying. I know no one likes to hear this, but have you tried reinstalling straight cs5? I’ve ran into a number of problems before with adobes updates, it always seems like their retail releases have the least problems. Other than that try using advanced frameserver and see if you can bypass media encoder entirely. Actually try that last one first, then the first one last.

  • Um, yeah, when you scale something up its going to look like crap. If you want a crisp 720×480 then record at 720×480.

  • Image editor? Wtf, dont listen to that guy, his advice doesnt make any sense, the op was talking about a video not an image.

Op, i dont get what u mean by “timeline doesnt match your video size”. If you didnt select the right size for your timeline then yeah its not going to be the right size. Either use a preset, or if none of those match your footage (though they should since ur working in a standard resolution), then you can select “custom->desktop” and make whatever size you want.

You might also want to consider converting your files to the lagarith codec using virtualdub, as premiere has a tendency to muck certain types of compressed footage, particularly interlaced, if you try to edit it natively in that format. Also be careful to keep all your footage size’s even or odd, which means if you got a bunch of footage shot at 135×246 then you need to make sure their all either 136×246 or 135×245 (its an issue caused by premiere/ae trying to scale footage to comp size on a subpixel level which causes ugly blurring).

He was asking how to create a more stable project, not how to entirely destroy it by using fcp.

  • What happens if you copy the selected area over to a new timeline, does it try to render stuff on other timelines?

  • Hey that worked, thanks.

  • nm, i think i figured it out. when you have a light line, like 1 px wide, (presumably on a dark background), AE tries to blend it. Well when that line is a transparency it adds some of the dark background to it over the alpha channel, effectively lessening the amount of “light” that can pass through the transparency. One way around it is to export in draft mode, but that trashes any thin curves, like a gif. Another way is to create a transparency only comp with the solid in use closest to the color of light your looking to have passed through it, then overlay that on top of the normal darker transparency to increase its perceived light throughput.

  • Um, they dont magically reappear, the gradient/fill settings are stored with the shape, not the group (shape layer).

Oh, with nvidia theres an option in the control panel, “adjust video color settings” select “use nvidia settings”, then go to advanced tab, and select full dynamic range. I know, why dont they do it by default, but its nvidia, be happy anything works at all.
