I started a project getting 35mm telecined to PRORES HQ format to use on FCP, however i am forced near the end of my project to export my files to a windows compatible format (since prores is proprietary). It is my understanding that prores is 10bit compressed, and i tried exporting to uncompressed 10bit, but premiere did not accept the file, it would only accept 8bit. Im trying to find a codec that will minimize the quality loss but i dont see any codec that can do so. I currently having to jump between after effects and premiere, where either program will accept some prores files and not others, and there doesnt appear to be any pattern why.
So basically its already been color corrected initially in telecine, and fx are done afterwards, but since is having to had the source files changed from 10bit compressed to 8bit uncompressed. It works, so i cant complain there, but at what cost?

Maybe theyre expecting people to put something behind it, or at least let the know that they can put something behind it. I wouldnt be surprised if you were the first person to ever complain about it, as the effect was only used in 90’s infomericals and government videos.

Im also having a problem with mpeg2 footage that i had edited with fine in premiere 2.0, but when i upgraded to CS3 suddenly the footage blinks red and doesnt play at the correct points anymore.
Anyways, you mentioned that importing mpeg footage with sound (as my file is) is well documented, can you tell me any more about this, because i cant redo my project, and ive tried the re-encode and replace method using SUPER, but it didnt work, tells me that my file isnt the same as the file im replacing (yeah, thats kind of the point ADOBE!#$@%@). Does pinnacle have some special avi encoding? Any idea on what i could do?

it only looks horrible when uploaded onto the web? by the web im guessing youtube which does the video conversion on its end? What do you expect, everything on the web looks horrible and out of focus.

i cant solve your problem but i will tell you this, PRORES is garbage and its been a nightmare to work with, but then again apple is garbage, so if you want to prevent problems like the ones your having avoid apple in the future.
Anyways, the quick fix is to export progressive, its going to take a quality hit but you shouldnt get any more of those doubled fields. Also burn it and play it on a tv to see if it isnt just interlacing. If its not an interlacing issue, then what you have is a common case of apple rape.
