I appreciate the advice. I guess i’ll put genlock on the top of my list of camera requirements.

Heh, fair enough, and no, im not an experienced DP, but i know enough to make things happen.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, but what exactly do you mean by strobing? Are you referring to the light levels jumping up and down slightly, like in an old movie camera?
Could you direct me to some resources, or tell me about what these special software/hardware setups i need to sync the cameras? Cant i just turn em both on, slate them, and sync em in post?
Is the stereo-rig too unwieldy to use with a handheld stabilizer? Will i need a steadycam to do this?

You ARE rendering it right? Because if you just export it the quality will suck. You need to triple check all project and render settings.

you mean if i import a video into maya using that plugin it will apply a displacement map which will allow for a stereoscopic view of any 2d source?
Im wondering what the limitations are. I imagine you would lose part of screen(or a zoomed loss of resolution) to account for having to pivot the screen in 3d space.

Thanks, glad to know it was fixed. FCP is still a terrible NLE, but i guess since i would only be working on someones elses project with it then i dont have anything to worry about when FCP trashes the project or breaks.

Try it both ways and see which one turns out better.

rotoscoping is your only choice unless you have a greenscreen. If for say you just wanted multiple copies of your actor to talk to eachother, the classic and easiest way is to film him in front of an still set standing at different nonintersecting points along the x axis of the screen, do this however many times you have space for, and just cut up the shots, composite, and move the seam accordingly.

Well, when i had encountered this i was working with PRORES HQ telecined film (.qt), however to work around it i had to import my files into premiere and abandon FCP. I attempted animation and uncompressed 8bit codecs but two days of attempting workarounds and various codecs/settings/software combinations didnt help.
Not sure what the cause of the problem was, but it appeared footage manipulated in AE CS3 was no longer compatible in FCP 6.

Cant you achieve a similar effect by using a multiplier? Ive faintly remember seeing it done before but i forget it your stuff had to have a solid color background. If thats the case, i dont see what the significance in using green/blue is, seems like any color would work.
