  • Premiere Pro / Media Encoder CS 5.5 Processing Unecessary files during Export

    Hi,

I recently started using Premiere Pro cs5.5, Up from CS3.
When exporting Premiere/Encoder seems to process every edit/cut in every file before rendering a avi or wav.

I set the work bar to say 2 minutes of a sequence and export.
I add to the que in encoder. When I hit play I can see it starts processing all files, even files that aren’t used in the area I’m exporting.
In CS3 it would be done in seconds now it takes up to 5 minutes. As you can imagine this begins to add up over the course of days and weeks.

A colleague with a similar setup does not encounter this issue. We have compared settings and preferences all seem to be the same.

Is there something we are missing. Why does Media Encoder need to process every edit and file in the sequence even though it is only rendering a small portion?
Shouldn’t all the edits and cuts be in the cached files already?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did you set the Source Range to Work Area in the Export settings?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes source is set to work area. It’s just weird, Never had this issue with CS3.
It’s going through and process avi’s and wavs that aren’t even in the work area.

I get this too. It is obnoxious, for sure!

What happens if you copy the selected area over to a new timeline, does it try to render stuff on other timelines?

It just works on the media in that sequence, but If i make several edits; When I go to export, It’s like Premiere Pre-renders every single cut before rendering the video.

If you count the amount of times the status bar goes across, it goes across once for every edit. CS3 Just renderred it.

It’s like it has to re-build the cache everytime it goes to render, Instead of just reading and rendering.

Wow, that does sound annoying. I know no one likes to hear this, but have you tried reinstalling straight cs5? I’ve ran into a number of problems before with adobes updates, it always seems like their retail releases have the least problems. Other than that try using advanced frameserver and see if you can bypass media encoder entirely. Actually try that last one first, then the first one last.
