That’s not what I meant, I was thinking it’s pretty impressive to pull off. Painstakingly moving one by one in a single layer. I had fun watching it, so the artist did a good job…

Is this done with multiple layers? In the beginning when she is walking past the trees, the foreground trees move by faster than the background trees as they would in real life. It seems like it would be quite time consuming to create that 3d effect without a separate layer for the tree going by. It looked like one layer to me…

OOOH, that looks FUN! FCPX is pretty much “good enough” for my work purposes but I’m still mainly using FCS3.
If Apple really is heading in this direction with FCPX and it gets fleshed out nice and solid (they seem to be doing OK with touch screens so far), I could definitely see such a setup in my edit room. My clients (who know NOTHING of NLE’s) would think it’s cool and impressive as well, always a plus.

FWIW I’ve had great experiences with LaCie D2 Quadra’s (2 drives daisy chained and setup as software RAID-0) connected via FW 800. It’s easy, cheap and provides decent amounts of storage and speed.

I’ve never used a Goflex drive but it looks like you could potentially dock a bare drive on this to be connected to your iMac/MBP via Thunderbolt. Now, I’m not saying it would be wise to do so, as it may not be held securely. Just thought I’d share.
I’d really like to see a 2-drive Thunderbolt dock soon (if nothing else, just for quickly dumping finished projects to back up drives), but I’ll need a Thunderbolt Mac Pro first…

You could bring it into Photoshop and make each element that you want to manipulate a separate layer. “everyday Health” could be one layer, each colored droplet it’s own layer and TM a layer. From there your free to do just about anything.

What about carrying on an entire camera, namely a Sony NX5u? Is it OK for the camera to go through the X-Ray scanner?

Are you sure that your .fcp files are 1TB? That seems a tad larger than normal…
Find your project file, it’s a .fcp file, and just copy that to your backup drive. The .fcp file size should be in the range of MB’s (not TB’s) and copy in seconds.
What version of Final Cut are you using?

If your just trying to backup your most current work on a particular edit, and all your capture file’s and other media are already copied to your backup drive, all you need to do is copy the project file. No need to over-write all of your original media every time, unless your making changes to those files themselves. If you have new files that need to be backed up, copy them over too. Depending on your project, managing a backup manually can be a challenge…
Time Machine should work though. For example if you have a 1TB drive that contains one specific project and all of it’s related media totaling 750GB, setup Time Machine on a 2TB drive to backup only the drive with your project on it. The time machine drive will fill with 750GB and then begin incremental backups of only what has changed. If the only changes are just cut’s on a timeline, Time Machine only needs to copy the tiny little project file. Just plug in the time machine drive and click backup now whenever you want to do a backup. The larger the Time machine drive is, the further back in time it will save.
I back up manually but I’m sure someone will have some advise on a better method than Time Machine. Like Carbon Copy Cloner, which I’m about to start using.

I’m confused, it sounds like your saying that your Autosave vault has multiple capture scratch folders, each with a copy of the captured media that your working with. I don’t think that’s the case.
You should only have one copy of your captured media on the hard drive (not to a mention backup on a different hard drive). Is FCP’s capture location still in the default location? I always set my capture location to the root of a separate drive (RAID Array) dedicated to capturing.
The project files in Autosave Vault are just project files, they do not contain copies of capture files. Each version of a single FCP project file is referencing the same Capture Scratch files (the Capture Scratch folder is where your original Log and Capture or Log and Transferred footage “lives”). If you delete a file from Capture Scratch the media will go Offline in all projects that use it. So, NO! Don’t delete Capture Scratch unless you don’t ever want to see that footage again!
Of course your Capture Scratch Folder could be full of useless “practice” captures, old clips you don’t need or copies of the same files (I suspect you may have made) that aren’t actually in use in any project. You’ll have to decide what you do and don’t want to keep yourself (select a clip in Capture Scratch and hit spacebar to preview it), or get an external drive and copy some stuff off the internal drive to free space.
Open your current project, right click a clip in the browser (preferably one that is in use on the timeline) and choose “Reveal in Finder”. That will open the folder that contains at least one file that you do not want to delete. Take note of the location and repeat as necessary until you have a solid understanding of where all your media is stored. If you do have a few copies of the same capture files, notice whether your current project version “RP.5” uses the original “RP.1” captures or the “RP.5” ones.
If FCP crashes and some work has been lost I would reboot, reopen the project and go to File> restore project, choose the most recent one then save. Instead of going into Autosave Vault folder directly through Finder.
