I’ve had this “Phantom Audio” as well. I ended up finding 1 frame of a clip, between two clips, but with its audio extending some 40 mins under the rest of the project. It was driving me crazy!

If this is something you will be doing often, I suggest getting a Matrox CompressHD Card or a MAX enabled MXO2 device. I have both, and don’t know what I’d do without them.
The Matrox presets for YouTube in Compressor do a great job creating H.264, and in slightly less than realtime. 1080 settings are 10Mb/s, and 720 settings are 5Mb/s. A 1hr 45min 1920×1080 video that I recently compressed with MAX and uploaded was 8GB. Not bad. As Jeff said, try to get a faster internet connection.
FWIW- If I’m not mistaken, anyone with a mobile phone can “upgrade” their YouTube Account to allow unlimited size/length uploads now. There’s a link at the bottom of the Upload page “increase my limit”. Click the link, enter mobile number, click submit and BAM, unlimited. I just logged in to a clients YouTube that I have NOT upgraded yet, to verify. I took screenshots of the link and enter mobile number pages if anyone needs to see.

Do you use the ND filters? The Zebra function? Maybe you could buy a hood for the LCD as well.

I just bought my third Sony NX5u, I consistently shoot 1-2hrs at a time and am able to edit in FCP 7.0.3 with no problems (Log and Transfer to Prores).
What is it about the NX5 is “not very compatible with FC, particularly when shooting long scenes”, is the problem specific to FCP 6.0.6?

I am a big fan of Belden 1505a (solid bare copper, foil and braid shields) and 1505f (Bare compacted copper, double braid shield, more flexible). IMO buy an appropriate length of cable to cut the individual lengths needed (I’ve bought from markertec), buy crimp tools and terminate the ends yourself. Having the tools and ability to easily re-terminate a cable is quite valuable when out on the field.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think RG59 is the “proper” cable for this application, vs RG6.

I don’t understand why so many people think the touch interface is so bad. Who ever said that if a touchscreen is used, that you get “locked in” and can ONLY use that? Am I missing something?
I figure if you want to touch and drag a clip to the timeline, you can. If you want to hit a keyboard shortcut, do it. If you want to use your pen tablet, use it. I definitely wouldn’t want to be stuck with only touchscreen editing, but surely would enjoy having it available!
I can’t possibly see ANY negative that would come from having yet another option at my finger tips. Come on guys, have some frickin fun with it!

I don’t think that is a good idea. I’ve never setup any RAID with anything but perfectly matching drives.

I agree with the MDR-7506 recommendation. They are road worthy, and as Ty said, efficient. Also excellent for movies/music. They are the only headphones I’ve regularly used (professionally) for many years and I always have 2-3 pairs around.

I don’t think the touch interface is going to break our mouse/tablet (good god, I hope not). It would just be another method of manipulation at our disposal. Have some fun with the touch interface for assembly/organization then pick up the mouse/pen for the real, detailed work.

For me, a good portion of my edits are intensely simple. Title, couple cross dissolves, fade to black, and burn or upload. I think it would be fun for that stuff, real complex projects maybe not so much.
