You can set the maximum gain for auto mode/auto gain in the menus (AGC). Mine is set at 9 (which still gets pretty grainy IMO), experiment to see what works for you. Also play with Auto Exposure (AE), which adjusts how far auto iris opens/closes the iris.

The NEAT Video Team sent me an email yesterday, with information about the FCPX Beta or “release candidate” as they called it. Of course it was recommended not to install on a production machine (im out of town on a job so I can’t even test it on any machine). But I am quite curious about your experience with it so far. So, you haven’t had any major problems/crashes yet? How’s the user interface? Render times?
Looking forward to getting home and playing with it!

March 6, 2012 at 3:45 am in reply to: Adding a video transition works sometimes & sometimes not?One or both of the clips don’t have enough “handle” for the transition. Simply trim the clip at least as much as its transition needs to extend into the next clip.
Type the word “handle” into FCP’s Help, to see the topic “Having Handles at Edit Points”.

Downscale and crop on input appears to function correctly.
My test-
NX5 HD-SDI out (1920×1080) to Ki Pro HD-SDI in. Ki Pro set to in-convert>SD and down-convert>Crop. Live monitoring and playback on an HDTV shows cropped image as expected.
Does this answer your question?

[David Eaks] “I’m not particularly aware of any special deals”
Except for the promotion code “switch” for 50% off Production Premium, coming to ~$850 or so. Photoshop alone is more than that… Better hurry on that though, “switch” promotion ends in a day or two, I think (and for real this time!).

Are you working with a still, or are you working with video? I was under the impression that you are working with a still image (pulled from video).
I’m not particularly aware of any special deals. Typically when shopping online looking for a deal, I’ll do a Google search and click “shopping results” then sort by price. Then check Ebay, Amazon and relevant online retailers for the best price. (I recently found a new AJA Ki Pro, 250GB HDD and the Exo-skeleton for $2100 shipped with this method, loving it!)

I’ve had great results with my latest clean install of Lion, FCP 7 & X. By installing FCP X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4 FIRST, then moving the three Apps to a new folder, “Final Cut Pro X”, within Applications. Then installing FCS 3, allowing it to install in it’s norml location.
Unlike installing X when 7 is already installed, which automagically moves 7 to a new folder, in applications. With this method, I seemed to be much less stable.

Try photoshop, I’d be interested to see if this works for you.

I had a similar issue with the new LaCie D2 drives, as soon as I figured out that they were in permanent power save mode I returned them. I still have several D2 Quadras from before these new ones were released, which never had a problem.
Good to know there is a firmware update to fix the problem, thanks for posting!
