Very interesting. It’s hard to find user stories what these outputs are like. I’ll email you directly.

Juan, what has been your experience with these decks? We’re about to do a lay off & we were given a tip to prep the tape for 8 tracks of audio. Have you done this before? We’re just getting into D5 work and besides the extra features, it appears to work similarly to Dbeta decks.

    Gary,

We were early beta testers of the 2k product. Currently using it in a production environment w/ deadlines, etc on a CG-heavy feature shot at 4k and mastered to HD. Our experience has been a bit trying w/ overall stability, reliable XML handling back & forth, predicable precise secondaries, overall responsiveness during grading and actual “realtime” frame rates. Have you had this experience?

We’re encouraged that Silicon Color keeps improving the stability of their product & when they work these bugs out it will be an exceptional, affordable DI solution.

  • IMHO, stay away from Maxtor drives. IBM Hitachi or Seagate are solid.

You’re right, it does rely heavily upon GPU. We’ve been using it on 4:4:4 material (and on SD, HD 4:2:2 stuff). Isn’t as realtime as we’d like, even for SD material, & we’re running a Radeon x800.

You know, we should do a demo when we finish our CG feature.

This has been the song of Apple & other vendors, re: SiliconColor. Curious what the real-world effect of two 3.5s would be for 4:4:4 captures in mb/sec.

Yes, we have several 3.5s too, yet have you found the point where they get full and the write performance drops? I was thinking of striping 2 together to be able to do 4:4:4 outputs.

    Any thoughts?

Which Xraid do you have? How is it for HD?

Thanks for those replies. We’ve received deliverables lists from different distributors, not from different countries. Our lists from each distributor seem pretty close i.e. 2 or 3 aspect ratios for the D-5/NTSC/PAL formats w/ textless elements on end, D&M&E track assignments are the same, da88 track assignments same, etc.

Is it your experience then, in a distributor deliverables situation that many variants of outputs are required depending upon country? Or is it more likely assembly variations will be the distributor’s issue after deliverables are sent?

    Thanks for your insights.
