The Flip encoder is $50, the playback tool is free. The full featured product deal FlipStudio is $200, last time I looked, a year or more ago.

Ask your cleints wht they REALLY need. You can probably give them MP4 or H264 files that will opne in Flash. Silverlight offers additional playback compatibility.

Your friend was wrong. Very wrong.
It’s not a question of style, there are good and bad practices in this business and capturing everything just because you don’t know any different is one of the more egregious and lazy ways to approach video editing.

we’re not telling you to edit your material before you capture it just because it saves space. We’re telling you that this is a best practice among professional editors who work efficiently in order to make money for themselves and their companies. You don’t even need to know why capturing only useful material is a good idea but Walter gave you several of the better reasons.

We’ve had mixed results with this question over several years. The last successful story I recall involved using a file editor to compare the code of a good file with that of the bad file and attempting to copy and paste the missing elements between them. It wasn’t that difficult, IRRC, but it’s not something I’d do myself.

I do not mean to sound mean but this is whey god gave us Time machine and backup utilities.

If it’s not a simple change of the canvas display from RGB to alpha or R, you need to talk to Sapphire’s publisher. You may have lost the registration, all plugin mfrs have their own way to disabling the preview versions, some use a big X, maybe Sapphire turns ’em red.

FCP, AFAIK, knows nothing about the future until it hits the brick wall.
It’s a matter of not being able to forecast its real world needs without first running a complete inventory and then extrapolating what it think its transcode operations will require, which is not a fixed ratio.

“Out of memory” can be researched online extensively, It comes up for lots of mutually exclusive errors.

I’d simply attach a rotation tracker but I’m having a bit of trouble imagining your predicament. Time lapse sequences created from digital SLR still images may be more easily processed running through Photoshop with some form of script.

This my preferred flow but we’re all different around here.
I also prefer to use the encoder in DVDSP instead of bothering with Compressor first, unless, of course I’m doing something in Compressor that I don’t trust DVDSP to deal with successfully.

You did not specify the sequence format in FCP so, assuming it’s DV, you gain nothing tangible, unless you’re really good at setting all of the variables available within Compressor, going to MPEG2 for DVD release. Umm, allow me to qualify that: “My opinion only.” I always use lower render settings while working and switch to best only at the last stages. Saves tons of time but my Approval Workflow Nightmare is, hopefully, much different from yours.

I always use self contained exports form FCP for the move to DVD and I place them on different physical drives than DVDSP/Compressor will placing files. This flow is rooted deeply in pingponging between AE and Ye Olde Media 100. the small hassles and small amount of additional space has always proven to be valuable insurance, again, specific to my nightmare of approvals and file management procedures.

Nothing simple about that effect in its final realization although the basics are relatively simple. Just takes planning, and practice.

You don’t a point on the finger if there’s contrast between the finger and everything else. but tracking data from the finger is not necessarily the motivational force behind movement of the panels since there is an implied snapping function and quite sophisticated ballistics considering the items are completely invisible to the actors.
