Just because I see this WAY too often from people who should know better: be sure your planet is rotating the correct direction so the sun rises in the east.

I don’t know if this will work for you either but I did it on a recent project. I created a small object that resembled the particles left after a Shatter explosion. This one particle went out of the frame which allowed for the transition from the 2D Shatter scene to full 3D space. I parented the camera to the object. As the object flew through the scene, the camera followed. I manually manipulated several keyframes to give the camera some chase ballistics, smooth banking, and physical inertia.

I hear there are some expressions that provide this kind of interaction but the word “expressions” sends me into paroxysms of terror.

Do you have effects applied to the vector layers? Some effects will cause them to rasterize before you think they should. Also, be sure your canvas and layers are all set to highest quality.

A reinstall is in order, probably. and that just may make things worse. You may have only installed the preview functions but that usually prompts you to load the installation DVDs when starting a render.

all of my actual components are .lttx, .ltob, and some .afp (from 12 inch design) files and they live in the main Library/Application Support/Livetype. without those .lttx files, nothing can be built on the render.

You’ll want to try many different textures and objects to see if theyr’e all busted before you go on a reintall binge.

    Hope you figure it out.

Can depend on the effect you are trying to apply. Some cause a collapse or compression of the rendering pipeline. You debug this by switching your layers on and off, one at a time, switching your effects on and off, one at a time.

What filter/effect is giving you such trouble?

[Susan Miller] “May you can tell me how to tell the programm to use the effects only on certain frames? “

That’s some pretty advanced project management. You probably need to bust your clip up into tiny subclips because they will all need different types of processing. You’re going to find out rapidly that the time required to do this repair is not worth the end results except as a learning experience.

[Susan Miller] “And how does it work with motion tracking? Do I need motion tracking with this effect becaue it seems to work without the tracking.

Yes and no. we have no idea what your footage looks like. You need motion tracking to follow weaving items. If your scratch is stable or your wire removal clone stamp is big enough, you don’t need to track it. Generally, you set keyframes for the Point A & B crosshairs. Those are are easily replaced with motion track.

You want to investigate importing “image sequences” in the Studio manuals and on various FCP sites.

Best way to do this is to set up your images in a folder in a numbered sequence. Open that sequence in QT, export as a movie. You can also bring the sequence into Motion. But you can’t do this directly in FCP.

There are other solutions, too, folks may offer some of them over the next few hours.

Search here and in other FCP forums for GENERAL ERROR, we see the post often and the various answers aer different and confusing. Only you can tell what threads might help you.

It would hlep if you told us what your sequence settings are, what your export settings are, and why you’re exporting form FCP instead of Compressor.

I don’t think you can possibly be correct in your RAM specifications: 500 megs in about 10% of what you need to run FCP on OS10. 500 megs is barely enough to launch the OS.

April 24, 2009 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Exporting Lossless Clips for AE?

there are two ways to bring lossless clips into AE:
    1. Use the clips
    2. Export using the animation codec.

You can achieve 1 by using reference movies (this assumes your original has be tronscoded into a format that both FCP and AE can deal with without processing).
You can achieve 2 at the cost of huge time and disk space since Animation files will be 5 to 10 times as large as your originals.

I’ve never shot with your camera, I’m strictly a DV shop.

April 24, 2009 at 2:23 pm in reply to: ragged letters in motion text created in MotioM

almost always user error or perception error. If you are working in Motion, you may have a project set to a higher rez than your sequence in FCP. Why are you exporting the movie from Motion? You should be using the .motn file.

    See Mark Spencer’s great article:
