A total grokking of pixel aspect ratios is what you’re missing.
There is a huge difference between settings and what appears on a screen because flags are set in the encode and your players have different ways of reading those flags and yoru applications may be set to disregard or auto correct for pixel aspect ratios. So there’s at least 9 different combinations of settings that can be mixed up.

There’s nothing easy about this PAR stuff. Nothing. You try to learn from your mistakes. But you can be absolutely certain that the machines are displaying what they’ve been told to show. You just have to figure out how to make all the setting work together.

Here’s what I did: I created some circles and some squares and rotated them in AE. Then I supered some text over the footage that included the codec and PAR settings in various applications like FCP, AE, Motion, Compressor, and tried to figure out where things were getting messed up. It was interesting and it led us to standardized procedures for two different acquisition formats.

Never used those codecs myself but one of the main issues with reversing clips in FCP7 for me is the field order gets swapped. Stupid bug.
Try rendering the clip and then importing the render file. Get properties and change the filed order, even if you think it’s supposed to be progressive.

Snow Leopard has nothing to do with this.

There IS a third party plugin that parses Illustrator layers. I have no need for it so I’ve not bothered to memorize what it’s called. Anyone know if there is a master registry/list of Motion plugs?

I’ve never used FCE but FCP has a list of buttons. You just open the list and drag the ones you like to the bar.

I know you’re trying to say a bit of money but the last project I did using hand-drawn cels for animation, we had so much trouble with the translation from film frame rates to video that we ended up simply biting theexpense and created the piece on-2s at a base frame rate of 30, 15 images per second. On the 120 second piece, that meant we had to draw 1,800 instad of 1,440 cels (not really that big a deal on my project, your mileage and accountanting practices will vary). This actually had huge upsides: the motion was far smoother and it eliminated ALL of the format interpolation headaches.

You might try searching for that camera model here on the cow. There are Canon camera user groups, probably on the Canon USA site.
Are you sure it’s really HD or is it just a flavor of Hd, maybe HDV?
Why do you think you should be able to hook it up to FCP?

contact whoever makes your dual head thingy.
I run three monitors with Final Cut Studio using a 4870 to drive one and an old nvidia card to drive the other two. I love the real estate.

[Rowan Cavanagh] “Very new to After Effects, BUT, what I want is to have a massive floor in my fake 3d scene, to receive light and shadows.”

There is probably a better way to do this. Most newbies do not understand how AE’s 3D world actually works or how to envision a project to work within the limited spaces. If you really need that kind of dimensionality, AE simply will not work for your project, you must move to a real 3D modeling and animation system.

None of those PNGs are set to CMYK are they?

I’ve recently had a terrible issue with FCP crashing out of nowhere. Turned out I had to uninstall and delete Qmaster to get back to work. No idea why or what happened and I’m NOT SAYING you need to do that. I am saying that chasing down FCP crashes is largely a frustrating waste of time.

[Eron Otcasek] “This is the first time I have used this Aja card(cable) cause I’ve just set up a new FCP station. 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel and I have installed the G-Tech 4-Port, PCIe x4 RAID Controller into slot 4….Aja LHi card in slot 2”

You need to talk to AJA, don’t you?

I think there’s an AJA forum here on the cow.
