We have not seen very good success using pre-FCP5 with Tiger.
Unless you absolutely think you need Tiger’s functions and features, stay with Panther until you can also update your FCP to 5.

The captured files are not backwardly compatible, dunno why.

You must export them as conventional DV from FCP5 or QTPro before they can be opened in FCP4+.
That’s more difficult than it sounds, sometimes, because your system may still place an FCP5 icon on them. You should be able to change that to FCP4 on your other machine. But you’re looking at a very long and tedious process. Be sure to test it with one clip before you commit to the whole batch.

Far easier to recapture on the other machine.

Be aware that your project are not interchangeable either. You can go up but not back.

You’re not going to like this:
My advice is to not bother upgrading the G4. Buy a G5. Or wait till the Intel units start showing up and THEN buy a used G5. Or buy a second used G4 with more spunk than the one you’ve got now.
Your OS9 days should have been over years ago. Figure out the best way to protect that stuff during your upgrade to Tiger so you can throw it all away at your leisure but get it off your machines. Unless you NEED those legacy apps for a rational business purpose, forget them. Go buy a used G4 iMac, load OS9 onto it and offload your legacy stuff to it. Put it in a closet.

Your planned upgrade path for your existing machine is kinda silly and it is fraught with endless possibilities to lose everything. But if you insist, buy or borrow an external FW drive, back everything up to it using a cloner application not a backup app, reformat your machine for Tiger, and bring everything back from the FW drive.

You must allocate the time to carefully examine the manuals for all of your tools, test and retest all non-standard procedures and then correct and retest any of your missteps. If this was MY project, and it's not, I'd forget everything I've said so far and I'd forget all of the weird stuff you're trying to do. Get on the phone with your Avid people and figure out how to make this work by following the easiest and most direct path. Try searching the forum for JAGGIES or such, we’ve been seeing this issue for months now. It seems to be related to the new render settings but I cannot recall the precise answer.

Your chromakey and crashing issues could be caused by way too many possibilities, sorry. You can search for CRASHES and KERNEL but there are no universla solutions.

Just so you know, there’s an Apple OS forum here on the Cow.

But I’m afraid I don’t have a good answer for you. Whenever I open our network connections, command-k, the window is always conveniently centered in one of the monitors. Regardless of where I move it, it always opens in the center of one monitor the next time. I’ve never had it open spanning the displays nor have I ever had it open way off to one side. However, Finder windows sometimes forget where they’ve been, especially if you have changed your monitor arrangement or the size of the display. Let’s say you had your monitor set to display a larger area. Maybe that network window was in the center of a larger display? Do you have two displays? Try opening that preference panel and just make some adjustments. Open your network connection, move it. Change your monitor size or arrangement back to normal. Try your command-k again.

What is your target output and why are your going there?
What is your target presentation device or system?

These are the factors (among others) that determine your export settings. If you can tell us where you’re going and why, we can give you some helpful advice.

Compressor might be able to do it but “fast” is not part of the equation. Compressor can be rendered in a farm using QMaster but no one has ever figured it out. You could be the first.

If you get some spare time, please answer this for the rest of us who are gradually getting into the new formats:
Why do you need a TS file? Can’t you go out of FCP directly to the deck and let it handle the recording? Unless you have HD footage in an HD sequence (or anything beyond SD), all you’re going to get with a high def encoder is really sharp and really big pixels.
