Adding reel numbers
OK – I was stupid.
I shot about 20 mini-dv tapes and imported them into FCP 4.5 WITHOUT assigning REEL numbers. I know I can go to the browser and add the reel numbers (a little sign says that I am permanently changing the file on disk )-I hope.I just bought Automatic Duck to take it to an avid editor to finish for me. So the question is – Will the reel numbers appear to the duck and export a complete EDL with the right media clips?
I could be in deep kimchi as I am doing this to save tiome and money with avid editor.

Call Automatic Duck?
The file on your drive will be permanently altered, the name will be changed to reflect the reel number. If you have not started editing, you should be golden. If you’ve started, all of your media will need to be manually relinked since the source has been deleted, as far as FCP is concerned. ONce you’ve started to use the newly named media, your exported lists should be okay but I do not use AD software nor do I trust and EDL as far as I can spit. Give yourself plenty of time to run a test file by your Avid guy/gal.Umm, at least, that’s what happened to me in FCP4.5 when I altered several reels’ worth of footage. Minor inconvenience but I wasn’t going out to another system.

Now I’m worried. My tmeline is almost complete and mt edit finished. When you say relinked manually, do you mean, more than just adding reel numbers? Does adding the reel numbers wipe out the names of my clips How do I relink manually?

Experimenting like this on a deadline or this late in the process is unsafe. You have only a 50-50 chance of success with untested procedures. Try the Automatic Duck site? You must allocate the time to carefully examine the manuals for all of your tools, test and retest all non-standard procedures and then correct and retest any of your missteps. If this was MY project, and it's not, I'd forget everything I've said so far and I'd forget all of the weird stuff you're trying to do. Get on the phone with your Avid people and figure out how to make this work by following the easiest and most direct path.
