  • qt files from fcp5 lose sound track 2 when opened in fcp 4.5

I have captured 10 hrs of dv in fcp 5.
    (dv – audio mono ch1 and ch2)
files work fine in fcp 5.

    Client has fcp4.5.
I import the qt files into fcp 4.5
They have only 1 mono audio track,
not the mono 1 and 2 that show up in
    fcp5.

Any ideas on how I can get these files
to import into 4.5 with both audio tracks.

    Thanks!

The captured files are not backwardly compatible, dunno why.

You must export them as conventional DV from FCP5 or QTPro before they can be opened in FCP4+.
That’s more difficult than it sounds, sometimes, because your system may still place an FCP5 icon on them. You should be able to change that to FCP4 on your other machine. But you’re looking at a very long and tedious process. Be sure to test it with one clip before you commit to the whole batch.

Far easier to recapture on the other machine.

Be aware that your project are not interchangeable either. You can go up but not back.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Thanks,
Recap or get the client to upgrade to 5.
In the future when I capture for clients it will be done
    in fcp4.5
