Over on apple.com, there’s a dedicated Qmaster forum.
The traffic is light and the complaints outnumber the positive posts by about 10,000 to 1. This appears to be worthless software from Apple that only works for a few gifted or charmed individuals. I’ve read the manuals through many times, followed every step pf the setup and initiation meticulously and repeatedly and with the assistance of Linux Jedi and I’ve never gotten the damned thing to even start.

Yednor, if you’re using DV, that’s just how it is.
why we accept DV as a useful codec is anyone’s guess.

You may not be able to.
Try importing the asset again and replacing the media in the layer with the asset.

This usually has something to do with the old media or asset begin moved to a different drive.

Replace Edit requires understanding AutoSelect.
Can’t be done.

Don, some of that advice might help other issues but the “mysterious disappearing media puzzle” remains unsolvable. It does not seem to be as common as it was when FCP4 and 4.5 were launched but it is a totally weird phenomenon. It is as if the files never existed.

Yes. It happens to very few people. Very few. But it is far more often than we have any reason to expect or tolerate.

FCP seems to get into the drive directory and totally wipe out any reference to the files. No amount of data rescue effort can resurrect them because they never existed. Not ever.

So your only hope — your ONLY hope — is to recapture them.

Haven’t seen this issue before but I can only think of one way for your files to be ending up in the trash and that’s because tehre’s an alias for the render files and you’ve somehow pointed to it.

I’d start by trashing your FCP preferences. Look for the .plist files associated with FCP or look in the manual, it tells you which files to delete. Or search this forum for “deelt prefs” or “trash preferences.” You’re going to have to empty the trash sooner or later, though.
