    > Bogiesan- your response was a bit short in my opinion. There is an option for linear audio transitions but I have never heard of linear ramps for FCP. Please let us all know where this option is.< Yeah, that's me. Short. Short and RTFM. I cannot imagine what possible difference a linear ramp could make to the aural presentation. The old Media 100 displayed straight line ramps but the actual envelope was a curve. When you follow the curve on a scope, the aural impression is actually linear because of the logarithmic dB scale. So, the result of a straight line envelope would be an aural curve? bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

continues till you hit ESCAPE. I once left the building for a moment and got sidetracked. Came back an hour later had had captured an hour of black after the tape ended.

    Yes and yes.

It’s all in the manuals, sorry to say, you’ll need to hit the index or the online search.

Linear ramps are disabled by default since audio energy is not linear.

Actually 3D or just an illusion of 3D?

A serious bit of design since AE is not a procedural 3D animation/modeling system. REquires you to learn Mr Mercury, Blobbilize, Caustics and Wave World.

In WW, you will animate a rising floor made up of a grayscale image of your button. You will apply the compound effect of WW to a solid layer and either start tweaking Mr.Mercury or Caustics using surface layer controls only.

It’s really hard the first twenty or thirty times and I know of no direct route to accomplish this effect.

    Ah, yesyesyes. Much more clearer.
    Cant’ be done.
You would need a volumetric filter such as Trapcode’s Shine.

You CAN fake it. Much easier to have the appropriate tool, though. Or hire it done by someone who has After Effects.

Digital Desktop is just a playback feature, it’s really got nothing to do with how you set up your Macintosh. Plug in any monitors or displyas your card will drive.

Run About This Mac and the push More Info button. You will get readouts on the RAM. I think you will see subtle but crucial differences. There are also some free tools you can download that will extract every iota of information that is burned into the RAM sticks.

I can’t recall where, but somewhere on the Net is a complete and exhaustive listing of every type of RAM used in every MAcintosh. Might even be on apple.com.

Is there a question hidden in there?
If you will never use Motion beyond playing with it, don’t buy annthing that supports it and just don’t buy the application. But if you already have it, it’s silly not to be able to use any of its more interesting capabilities. If you’re buying used or refurbished, buy the most incredibly monstrous graphics card you can afford that will support Motion2 and maybe allow you to upgrade to Motion3. Wildest speculation, of course, but rumor has it FCP6 will begin the transition to GPU-based real time capabilities.

    Not clear enough.
Do you mean an instrument shining on a stage or do you just want to put a light glint across the face of the text?

That was a cool story, thanks for the link, Peter.

Some package those dudes ran. Must have been in the $100-$150,000 US range.

I also noted the use of “hairy” and “unsettling” more than once to describe the pressure of ingesting and going directly to air from an untested configuration.
