Check the Qmaster forum at apple.com
I have no idea why this tool even exists since the success rate is less than 10%. The few who can make it work love it. For the rest of us, Qmaster is a cruel joke. The apple forum is a cruel joke, too. Most of threads are self-answered.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

It’s not the slides that are causing this, it’s your render settings or where you’re viewing the output.
You can search for PowerPoint information on the forum or for render jumps. We get posts weekly on both of these topics.

Since this post is going to other FC forums, do us all a huge favor and return to them with a synopsis of your findings.
I’m with Bryce. You should be only concerned with teaching how to edit. The platform is irrelevant unless your school requires marketing snobbery positioning in which case Avid is your only choice for recruiting newbies to the field experienced editors will adapt to any platform.

Since you have posted this to at least two FCP forums, be sure and go back to each of them and close the threads.

AVI is not sufficient. Like QT, it’s just a wrapper. There are hundreds of mostly obsolete codecs for AVI and only a scant few are available for Macintosh. You need to know what they want. Exactly. The probably don’t know or they’d know better than to ask for AVI which, while marginally supported, has been abandoned except by people who haven’t updated from Windows 98.
You will probably need a different tool to create AVIs for them, if you can get them to tell you what they really want. Honestly, it’s easier to do this on a PC or hire it done.

MPEG1 export settings are available from within Compressor but you may need to create them. The codec is there, the preset might not exist yet.

I hope you get some help but there just aren’t many fibre channel folks around here. You need to to talk to the mfr of your cards or your RAID maker.

I’d encourage you to use the Copy function in Media Manager and then try to launch the new coy of the project from the external drive. You might be delighted with the results. As Mark points out, MM seems to work fine for lots of folks. MM has never worked for me, not even on even the simplest of projects, but that’s no reason to assume it won’t work for you.
Just don’t do anything drastic or irreversible to your original media until you now for certain that your copy is intact.

Part of the problem might be using Boris 3D, a highly capable, and therefore complex, text machine. You’re probably overdoing the subtitles by creating text objects with formatting in Boris that you don’t really need. If you are firmly attached to using Boris, you’re stuck. Otherwise, you can try using any of the other text tools to create less render-intensive titles; text objects that will work within your machine’s RT capabilities. Forget outlines and shadows, effects not usually needed for subs.
Caching the still images is an interesting part of your problem and I’ve not encountered it myself. Your description implies FCP looks at the sequence and immediately starts building and caching the Boris titles. Adding RAM might help store them but it won’t help build them any faster.
Hope you get some other suggestions.

The alpha on PVGs can get a bit funky but it should work. If you’re starting a workflow decision, make a test. You’ve still got to decide on pixel dimensions, aspect ratios and color gamuts.
