I’m trying to import video using a dvd player. I have footage in the Log and Capture window, however, when I hit Capture Now. I keep getting “Capture now has reached the end of tape. All existing footage …” how do I get the video footage in for edit?

You must switch the Control setting to “Non-controllable Device”.

It’s not on Non-Controlable Device. It’s on Firewire NTSC. Im using final cut pro 5.

No DVD Payer can be controlled via Firewire INTO FCP. Some DVD Recorders (not many) have been known to OUTPUT via firewire.

You will need to use Capture Now or rip the disc. Hopefully not a Copywrited Disc!.

Right, I’m using capture now. Yet it’s still giving me this message “Capture now has reached the end of tape…”

Since you have posted this to at least two FCP forums, be sure and go back to each of them and close the threads.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I sure its not able to syn up with Firewire..which is the biggest proble.
Id try different capture settings, also try trashin your preferences..
You might be out of luck though, I know alot of boxes out there with firewire ports..
My cable box has one, but I dont think FCP will synce up with it properly..
I have the same problem with an old JVC camera wont sync..
Only other suggestion is go through a break out box of some sort..AJA pinicle.. go Svideo in and AV and then go directly into you system
    GOOD LUCK.
