Your same question is up on apple.com. You still haven’t answered my question satisfactorily on apple.com. What do you mean by “red?” Red overlay., solid red matte, red text, red tint, red render bar?

Please post your solution to both forums and to any other FCP forums where you have posted the same question. Do us a favor and tell us you’re crossposting. We’ll still try to answer your question but it let’s us know you’re using multiple resources and those who monitor many forums can ignore the duplicate threads.

Use the Animation codec for the render. Make sure you have the options to not render the background set properly so the opaque background is not rendered but remains transparent. Check the documentation, it’s all there.
Are you sure the alpha channel is missing? Maybe your destination application is just not seeing it properly.

Yar, I’ll second Ariel. it is universally readable and comes with complete sets of glyphs for any possible language issues. We have gone to 22 pixels and compressed leading to fit four lines in the space we’d normally fit 3. Not recommended, not pretty.

We use 6 second modules with 10-frame fades for most subs and captions.

We have, as a matter of company policy, purchased AppleCare policies on every new Macintosh since about 1997 when we spent many thousands trying to repair a Media 100 system.

Of the 35 or more machines we’ve gone through since then, 15 needed some kind of work done on them that was covered by AppleCare. Not all of that work was defective product although we’ve had five power supplies fail after more than two years, five or six drives crashed and a few graphics cards fried. Most of the AppleCare we needed was caused directly by user error, requiring long hours on the phone with tech support, but it was all covered.

I’d say out of the roughly $10,000 (30x$300 per policy, avg.) we invested on AppleCare, we have received easily $15,000 in services and repairs.

You’re buying much more than insurance on possibly defective Apple hardware. Get someone to explain the coverage carefully to you so you know what you’d be getting and then you have to ask yourself, as you should with any insurance policy, what is the downside of NOT having the coverage? If you are in business, call your accountant before making a decision if it’s bothering you that much. You may find it is completely to your advantage to spend the money, tax-wise. But do not take our word for it.

Study the manual on multiclips very carefully.
What’s happening is your 8 tracks are still there, in the same way your four video tracks are still there, but you only hear two at a time, the two tracks that are associated with the selected camera angle. It is possible to get all eight tracks into the mutliclip editing session but that rather defeats the basic setup and requires some research.

You could paste in the tracks or you can option-drag them down into additional tracks from the cut soundtrack so you can pull the handles out. It’s not difficult but you need to understand the paradigm Apple chose to use for multicamera editing and then figure out how to make it work for you.

Here’s my take on this:
If your client needs that kind of volume, do yourself and your crew a favor and just buy a little PC. The encoding tools from Micrtosoft for WMV are free. All you do is feed it files.

Transcoding to wmv on our G5s is a terribly lengthy process because it really does require two passes to get the best images from Flip4Mac. It’s freakin’ glacial!
