  • Make Freeze Frame – shows RED

Posted by Rory Hinds on October 15, 2006 at 5:52 pm

    Hi there

I’m using FCPHD 5.1.2 on a Mac Book Pro 17″ and when I create a Freeze Frame the clip shows up as red.

I’ve checked my Effects Handling and its set to Final Cut Pro.

Anyone have any ideas why I’m seeing red on Make Freeze Frame?

I have the latest QT installed.

    Many thanks
    Rory

In the upper left-hand corner or the timeline is a button that says “RT”.

Is it set to “Unlimited” with the two “Dynamic” selections also checked?

    Hi Jeff

Thanks for the quick response. I’ve check my RT settings and have trying cycling through them with no change in the Redness.

Anyone having the same problem as me?

    Regards

This is a common user error in FCP. Click on the small icon shaped like a screen cut into four at the top of the viewer or canvas on the right hand side. On the drop down, change the option set to Alpha + RGB to just RGB.

You will find that many common problems like this have been posted about on here before – use the search posts function when you’re stuck, it’s helped me out many times!

    Hi Ben

Thanks for the info, unfortunately this is not the problem. I have it set to RGB and it still show red.

I’ve tried toggling it on and off but the image still show up with red over it….

    Any other ideas?

I’m starting to think that this is a Mac Book Pro 17″ bug as it works find on my G5.

Anyone using FCP on a MBP 17″ having the same problem as me?

    Many thanks

So you are saying the image doesn’t change when you toggle between RGB and RGB+Alpha? That’s odd – it should. Have you tried changing it on both the canvas and viewer?

    Otherwise, no idea.

RGB+Alpha changes it to show the Alpha (sure you know this) but yeah the image stays RED so it must be something else or a bug for the MBP.

Anyone using a MBP or Mac Pro? As this might be an Intel problem as it works fine on my G5.

    Thanks

The point I was making is that RGB+Alpha will show you a red version of a still with no alpha (it overlays a red frame over the still to show that there is no alpha on the clip). This red colouring should go when you select RGB only. If there is no change when you toggle between these states, you have a problem. Any clip (without an alpha) opened in the viewer and viewed as RGB+Alpha will display red – that’s why I suggested you check this.

I would suggest starting by trashing your prefs – I believe this can help. I would be suprised if this is hardware related.

Thanks Ben, I’ll try trashing the Prev.

This is a Freeze frame so FCP has generated the image.

Strange. I hope this can be fixed.

I’m answering all these questions from a 15″ Macbook Pro. Everything’s fine here.

I find it very unlikely that there’s some bug on the 17″ that’s NOT on the 15″ so I doubt that’s your problem. Hopefully trashing the prefs will work for you.

Your same question is up on apple.com. You still haven’t answered my question satisfactorily on apple.com. What do you mean by “red?” Red overlay., solid red matte, red text, red tint, red render bar?

Please post your solution to both forums and to any other FCP forums where you have posted the same question. Do us a favor and tell us you’re crossposting. We’ll still try to answer your question but it let’s us know you’re using multiple resources and those who monitor many forums can ignore the duplicate threads.
