The absolute easiest and most direct path is to get a PC and use that microsoft freebie app to encode the AVI to whatever specs you need. You can suck the DV in over a network on the fly or coy the file to the PC.

Or invest in a breakout that will work directly with your Macintosh to your Beta. Not cheap but eventually a far better tool if you are going to be using FCP in our shop. Someday you will be free of the anachronism that is AVI.

We all do.
We miss things about out old Media 100s (hardware codec, instant alpha support, elegant, if simple, workspace, long list) but we don’t miss Media 100 in the slightest.

Keep your system for a few months then have a rite of passage ceremony out in the woods. You and your board and BOB go in but only you come out.

Not that we know of, been screaming about this for years.

Might be easier to create a Compressor Droplet if you do a certain export often.

Export a reference file to your desktop, plop it onto the Droplet (assuming you’ve built it to ask for a destination) and away it goes. The first few Droplets are confusing but they’re cool.

There’s also 3D Assistants from, I think, Trapcode. You can import a whole bunch of layers and tell 3D assistant to map them into a sphere. Very cool. Not cheap.

Not really. It will be easier and cheaper in the long run to reshoot your scenes using proper lens protection.
However, if you have the money, you can pay someone to attempt to clean up your footage. You must cull your footage very carefully, though. You want to invest in cleaning up only that which you will use. So don’t invest in an After Effects artist’s work until your film is almost finished.

this work will be tedious, exacting, and tremendously difficult. That means it will be expensive.

Use any of the lossless codecs.
It’s much more complicated than that. What are you doing and where are you going with the output?

Closed Captioning is difficult. The information is encoded into line 21 of the NTSC signal. Ther are many ways this can be stripped off.

I would have never thought of that because I would never install weird apps like that on my editing machine. Also, interesting that you could see "transparent" as a user-caused issue and not a graphics card or OS problem. I was thinking of certain display glitches I think most of us have seen on our Mac monitors at one time or another where a restart cleans it up. We’d love to help but you’re not writing a description any of us can read. You may need to review several different tutorials on tracking before you can use it in this situation.

Try rendering out your first movie tracker 1 and then reimport it to use with tracker 2.

Ttraking is rilly and troolie hard, even in AE7. Irregardlessably of how much u wanta due it, traking takes lots and lotz of praktis.
