  • How to map a layer to inside of a large sphere and have camera inside it.

    Hi there,

I’ve got a background layer which i’d like to map to the inside of a large sphere so I can then bring a camera inside the sphere and aim it around looking at different spots.

Is there an easy way to do this which I’m overlooking? I tried CC Sphere but I don’t think you can get inside it. Spherize is the closest i’ve come to faking it, but you have to mess around a lot more to make it look like im basically just slowly spinning inside a ball.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot everyone.

    Sincerely,
    Jason Allen

Use the CC Environment effect. It’s part of the HD Cycore package. You’ll have to Google it yourself as it’s blocked from here.

    Thanks for that guys.

Thats what I was thinking basically.

The only other thing i’m going to try is making a large cube out of 6 solids, putting a camera inside it and somehow using an adjustment layer with CC Lens to make it all look sorta roundish. It doesn’t have to be precise, it’ll be pretty blurred as a background to animations moving infront of it.

Thanks for the help again Dave and Chris. You’ve both helped me before, I appreciate it again!

There’s also 3D Assistants from, I think, Trapcode. You can import a whole bunch of layers and tell 3D assistant to map them into a sphere. Very cool. Not cheap.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Hi,

If you have Invigorator it would be a snap!

Let me know if you have the plug and I will guide you through the process.

    Salut.

    Hi Serge,

I do have invig, hadnt thought of that. A cube would be easy enough i spose. For a sphere do you start with a tiny radius circle and add a halfpipe edge?

Also I havent tried going inside a model before. Will that work? and if so will my layer maps just be the same as I’ve set, except backwards given im looking from inside?

Thanks a lot for the idea Serge.

Jason. What version of Invigorator do you have? And how many clips do you need to map?

The method you described will give you a sphere, just make sure that your circle is 0.8 X 0.8 and that the faceting values are set to (0.01) to get a smooth sphere. The last value must be typed in, as the slider will only go to (0.1)

    Salut.
