[pnixon] “the imported movie looks terrible. Probably a dumb question however only been using FCP a few weeks and cannot figure out how to make a Keynote presentation look good after importing into FCP.”
It’s not a dumb question at all but “terrible” doesn’t help us much.

Start with the manual , for sure. Your problems will start when you try to relate what you know about Avid to FCP. Practice on a non-essential piece of something you can afford to destroy.
Media Manager is a major weak spot in FCP. It bears no resemblance to similar tools in Avid, which, although I have never used Avid products, I hear is reliable, dependable, and fairly simple to use because the interface is intelligently designed. None of those apply to Apple’s Media Manager.

On some other forums, couple of other folks talked to other folks at AJA and they said they’re not really shipping yet. Looks like October. I’m sure the AJA forum will have something to say when and if one appears.

Operating any video file-based system over an underpowered or inappropriately setup network is asking for trouble. Big trouble. Access privileges, simultaneous read-write attempts, server caching, server collisions, server priority compatibilities, check-in and check-out functions and current versioning are all going to be far more trouble than you can imagine. Just wait til one of your geeks decides to invoke the network rendering engine in AE!
You need a dedicated SAN, NAS, xSAN or xServer type of operation and you need a dedicated network wonk.
We keep lots of stuff on a server but we always download locally to do any work. Uploading and tracking new versions require zero-tolerance to an established workflow paradigm. No one can be bothered with such rigidity so we just flail.

Yar, Foam is a great particle system, tremendously underused in this day of “Trapcode for this” and “Trapcode for that.”
The effects supplementary PDF that is on your installation disk is handy. There’s a long section on Foam but, unfortunately, it doesn’t get into the more subtle features and functions. For in-depth Foam, Shatter, Card Dance, Caustics and Wave World instruciton , you need Total Training’s materials.
No, I don’t get any compensation from TT, more’s the pity.

Wave World, a woefully underused grayscale generation utility, will create superrealistic ripples. It’s fabulous. But the output requires a second filter such as Caustics to make the effect visible.
Creating a water drop is another challenge altogether, unrelated to the ripples.

Keyframe the gravity and gravity direction/inclination settings to change. These actions take time within the Shatter universe. The initial settings may require lots of tweaking.

It’s often an encoder that will go between your video output and the video input to the Beta deck.
Personally, I’d hire it done; it’s going to be cheaper in the long run.
How are you getting the captioning done? These might help, dunno:

Looks like it was shot that way, deliberately designed with a moving lighting instrument.
Probably enhanced with a dissolve to color between or a moving rectangle of orange layer mixed in but there are many frames missing from the transcode. Stepping thru it leaves out some crucial detail. It’s hard to tell if the dust n the surface is being sidelit r just getting an electronic highlight.
