Water drop
Posted by Michael Zoppo on September 16, 2007 at 12:29 amHow could i go about creating a realistic water drop, just one single drop that falls into water and you can see the ripples?
Thanks

September 16, 2007 at 5:24 amTake a look at this… he does a very good job of making realistic rain drops.

My only complaint is that I wished he would explain more detail about the methods he used.

September 17, 2007 at 1:27 pmWave World, a woefully underused grayscale generation utility, will create superrealistic ripples. It’s fabulous. But the output requires a second filter such as Caustics to make the effect visible.
Creating a water drop is another challenge altogether, unrelated to the ripples.

Wave World + Caustics = headache of a render… although it does look pretty =)
I like to pre-render a Wave World comp, then use it for a Displacement effect on an Adjustment layer and set its blending mode to something like soft light or overlay.
