G5 is ancient history. Your new mac should be based on Intel CPUs. The card buses in the Intels vary, be sure you know exactly which model you have when talking to a supplier.

Nvidia 3870 is the card of choice for most of us. I don’t know if it’s OpenGL-capable since that’s not a factor for Motion or After Effects. I’d be talking to the makers of the program you are upgrading. if they don’t know, no one does.

OpenGL remains a sad and sick joke on the Macintosh. More weirdness, Snow Leopard and the next generation of Intel chips are rumored to support a new graphics architecture called OpenCL.

Usually a simple problem with the audio file itself, somehow it’s just not compatible with Motion. try a known file type such as AIFF.

Huge differences but they may be acceptable to you if cost is you major consideration instead of the tremendous limitations of the iMac platform.

Time remap will speed up your footage easily and precisely without attempting to create new frames which is what Twixtor does.

Your inquiry implies you are misunderstanding several of the basics of time compression. Try telling us what you’re trying to achieve and why you shot whatever it was you shot at those frame weird rates. And how did you shoot at those rates? What camera shoots at 8 fps? What shutter speeds?

Force quit or kill process. You will lose whatever is not saved. the AE autosave feature may rescue you if it is active.
Save early, save often. Always save before committing to anything that will change the file significantly.

My standard recommendation on all types of format “looks”: go gently.
A little of these effects goes a long way. Your audience is not stupid and a nice effect that was supposed to enahnce your look and feel can rapidly become a tedious and distracting or boring affectation.
