I don’t know what your CD4 cylinder contents are but you CAN layer two CC cylinders one inside other. Kinda tricky since they’re 2D objects they have to rest on top of each other in the timeline and the upper one has to have a larger radius and the upper-outer one has to have some areas of transparency so you can see through it to the one in the middle.

You can do this with CC Sphere, too. It’s cool. It’s how we did lots of 3D stuff before AE coudl do 3D.

    You’re very welcome.
I see your other post has come up, give it some time, could take a few days.

    > my sanity and I thank you. < Your sanity will be gone when you open Zax or Blender or even contemplate moving the 3D if you're really new at AE. Lights, shadows, camera positioning. 3D is nine times as difficult as 2D and takes up to 20 times as long to render. bogiesan

December 9, 2008 at 5:57 pm in reply to: How would you create a Glowing Light from an Office?

If you trace the window with a mask, apply a two or three pixel stroke, you can use this as the input for CC Light Burst or CC Light Rays (depends on your stylistic need). The alpha from the stroke can be used to create an outwardly oriented glow. Very little of this effect is needed to carry the illusion.

There are many other ways to use the window shape as the source of a glow filter. Without seeing your footage or knowing what the rest of the project entails, hard to tell you which one to pursue. Heck, you can even use CC Light Wipe, precompose that output, and add some zoom blur.

[Darby Edelen] “Here’s a sample I put together quickly. I used a Median filter (with Operate on Alpha enabled) on the Snow layer in order to get the fallen snow to ‘melt’ together more. This could’ve been done better, but I’m a busy man 🙂 “

Good lord, Darby, this is soooo cool and so simple I’ve never known what to do with the Median filter but it’s easy to see how you modified the alpha as the control for the stickiness. I can’t quite get the particles to let go but you’ve given me much to contemplate with your quick example. Thanks. Illuminating.
I am in awe, as usual.

[Adam Schoales] “what are the best settings? I know that if I dont set things up properly it’ll look like crap on a TV (and I dont have a broadcast monitor to double check with).

should I turn on motion blur? should I ensure it moves at a specific speed? do I just set keyframes for the Y-axis or use another method? “

Not easily answered, there are no absolute recipes. Setting keyframes on the y axis will move your clips vertically, yes. A bit of vertical blur, say, 1 or 2 pixels, will help reduce perceived flutter caused by single- or triple-pixel elements being messed up in the interlacing.
A clip that travels from off the bottom of the screen to off the top of the screen, say, 2000 pixels, should move in nice, round number of pixels per frame. Just watch out for weird and fractional pixels per frame speeds that will create interlacing issues. These may or not be diminished by a bit of vertical Gaussian blur.
Warning: I have heard that, in features governed by unions, the number of seconds a name appears on a vertical roll is controlled by contractual arrangements.

Try posting a new question to get some better answers to the new topic, maybe “Best rolling credits settings?” You’ll get smartasses like me saying “there is no best recipe” but you should get some helpful suggestions.

  • You will need to break this up into manageable blocks. The timing os each clip will be exactly the same so the transition between clips will be seamless. Try to keep them about 2 minutes.
Breaking it up into blocks also makes it easier to edit the inevitable typos and last minute client changes.

You might be able to do this at a post house using a downstream keyer and a character generator. Of they might be able to create your crawl as a keyable file.

There’s no way to know what a used camera has been through. Make the offer based on what you want to spend. You either end up with a used camera or you keep looking.
Could be bargain. Does the package include more than the camera? Batteries, chargers, aux lenses, cases, good tripod?

Complex and long credits are best handled as separate clips. Timing them isn’t difficult, as long as they’re set to the same speed, there is no way to tell there isn’t one continuous crawl.

But your formatting requirements appear to be beyond the capabilities of conventional video text generators. Consider composing them in a good image editor like Photoshop. You will also benefit from the advanced typography controls to make the layout look great. You want good spacing, kerning, alignment and leading, all quite beyond the scope of stock text filters.

If you go the PS route, break up the lists into manageable blocks. That way, when you locate typos—and there will be many—you can edit selectively without having to recompose, reimport, nad rerender the entire thing for each niggling change.

  • [Aqeel Arruhaily] “saw on a tutorial importing mp3 file and when i tried to do the same AE didn’t accept that file.”

Difference between accepting and not being able to import. You seem to be saying your AE rig cannot handle the conversions. That would be an indadquate hardware issue on your end.
