  • boris long ticker style crawl – length/text limitation

I have a large amount of text (23,700 characters in a text document) to crawl on one line in a ticker style that I’m trying to do In Boris’ crawl – would probably run about 10-15 mins. There seems to be a limit to the amount of text you can either paste or import into Boris. It either just bunches up all the letters at a certain point (pasting), or gives the error message ‘Can’t import larger than 32K’. (importing .rtf file).
No luck either with FCPs standard text crawl, same bunching happens at a certain point.
Is there any way around this character limit? Or do I have to divide my crawls up into segments, going through the pain of trying to get them exactly the same speed as they chase each other?
Have also tried to do it in Motion, but Motion seems to be struggling with that amount of text also, it hangs for a several minutes when I just try to change the font or any other adjustments.

    many thanks

You will need to break this up into manageable blocks. The timing os each clip will be exactly the same so the transition between clips will be seamless. Try to keep them about 2 minutes.
Breaking it up into blocks also makes it easier to edit the inevitable typos and last minute client changes.

You might be able to do this at a post house using a downstream keyer and a character generator. Of they might be able to create your crawl as a keyable file.
