when i try to import files to my after effects cs3 ,it doesn’t accept compressed avi files while there is no problem with uncompressed ones though i’ve already installed codecs like divx xvid.quicktime files and mp3 are also not accepted.btw mp3 file is not among the list of types of files supported when browsing to import files.
    any help ,pls ?

AE is not a universal format conversion application. The list of acceptable media files for AE is found in the documentation.
Highly compressed formats must be decoded somehow and it’s far easier and more efficient to do your transcoding upstream of After Effects.

you are right ? but what i meant is my AE doesn’t support or accept those files i didn’t mean to convert format.I saw on a tutorial importing mp3 file and when i tried to do the same AE didn’t accept that file. the same thing happened with compressed avi files and mov files.

Difference between accepting and not being able to import. You seem to be saying your AE rig cannot handle the conversions. That would be an indadquate hardware issue on your end.
