Yes. I know. FIlemaker Pro might be a better media manager than FCP’s media Mangler.

SO it’s either a I/o Driver issue or a K3 downconvert issue.
Can you hear the pops if you play back the downconvert? If you can’t then it’s maybe an I/O driver/firmware issue.
You shouls report this to AJA. But just for fun, change the cable going between the boxes.

Shane,
I hear you. People who migrated from AVID, as I did years agao, were used to a very solid mefia manager. I have grown to love FCP’s MM and it has served me well. I know that you may have just heard the THUD of peoople fainting, but I really think it works very well for the most part. I wish it was not so ties to media being online, but the thing to do is experiment with media manager when there is no gun to your head and take the time to learn it. It actually does what it is supposed to do and that could be one reason the FCP team has stuck with it. (aside fromt the fact that they couldn’t write any ground up system within FCP).

What about media managing the sequence to an HD Uncomressed timeline, creating it offline and recapturing it all fromthe original HDV at 1080I ten bit preset through the LE>

After capture from the K3 to the I/O can you see the flatlines in the waveform in the timeline? or is it on the output of the I/O to the D-Beta.

Check to make sure that the RT tabs are all turned on in the settings window.
Do an upgrade and when FCP starts up again it will red0 the RT profiling.

T,
Tell me how you have to finish and I will provide the workflow.
I agree with Russel’s points but if you have to finsih for TV or to tape then the best route, BASED ON HOW YOUR FOOTAGE WAS SHOT, is to stay in the 29.97 framerate.
If you shot 24PA, whcih you did not, then you can make the choice to remove the redeundant frames on the tape upon capture.
Coming from AVID you need a more basic understaning of FCP and the infinte number of presets it has. It’s not so cut and dried as capturing in the AVID, which has limited settings with only their proprietary codec.

Laura,
As a general rule I do the following.
10 minute chunks MAX. Think about a drive seeking from minute 1 to minute fourty back to minute 5 on to minute 32 back to minute 17 on one file. You can see how it could be taxing.
ALWAYS have media on external drives.
If your drive has two FW 400 or 800 ports, try swapping them as sometimes one port is slightly faster depending on the internal wiring od teh BUS.

I just read through this. Not sure if it is solved. But there are a couple of contradictions. This first post says that the pops were introduced during capture, but a later post says that the HD timel;ine is fine. I would ask for the TC where the waveforms had to be redrawn. Then I would compare that to the timline and check to see if they are in your timeline. If they are NOT. then check to see if there is any kind of time consistency to the flatlines, Like every certain number of frames or something. If that is the case then I would suspect it is something in the hardware downconvert that is not translating. You could report that to AJA.
If it is in the captured file. Does a recapture produce the same results? Is it HD-SDI in?

There are some great animated TV screens that enter and exit in Livetype.
